Mo Rocca (a little more ‘Mo now)

I met Mo Rocca in Provincetown, MA this past 4th of July, and have to say he was so delightful and interesting to talk to. If you’re not familiar with Mo Rocca, he regularly appears on Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! and is a former contributor to The Daily Show.

I always assumed that this ‘Mo was out and proud, but apparently Mr. Rocca had always kept his sexuality in the closet so to speak… that is until today.

Welcome to “The Club” Mo… but let’s be honest, with a name like Mo it’s not a huge surprise.

Men of Twitter

Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. As always, suggestions for profiles to feature are welcome and if you’d like to follow me, you can find me at@BosGuy. Below are a few more #MenOfTwitter you may want to follow.

JordanJaric – (A.K.A. Jason Hanan) I’ve only recently started following, but his story is as dramatic as his good looks and I wanted to feature him right away. This spring he underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor.Despite facing such adversity, his tweets are light hearted, up-beat and funny. You can read more about his story here.

alcondorado100 – I’ve been following Carlos for quite some time.He is the first person I’ve ever featured who I know absolutely nothing about, because he doesn’t tweet in English. The only thing I can tell you for certain is that this guy is gorgeous (or as we say here in Boston, GawJus).

AlanIlagan – I’ve been reading Alan’s blog for years. This handsome guy from upstate NY spends a fair amount of time in Boston too so I’ve had the chance to meet him in person. He’s even more charming in person than online where he’s known to ham it up in front of the camera.I’ve opted to use one such photo rather than his current Twitter pic so you can see more of him (so to speak).

Str8cam is a delectable combination of sexy and friendly. Straight as an arrow, the gay community should thank Jeff for his work to make sex so satisfying. Not only is he sexy as the day is long, but he markets a product that makes sex so pleasurable. Not sure of what I’m talking about? Check out his site, http://STR8camLube.com.

Rybrator is a young man living in New York City. Aside from his obvious good looks (which I cannot stress strongly enough), I think he is worth following because he’s funny. Maybe it’s an age thing but anyone who rants on twitter about not hearing enough Britney I find amusing. Combine that with what I think are classic good looks and you get #MenOfTwitter candidate.

@TheRealTheoD it seems like hardly a week can go by without a sexy guy from London being featured in my #MenOfTwitter posting… Despite the fact that London has had their fair share of men featured, I couldn’t help but post The Real Theo D… Follow this handsome guy. You’ll enjoy his tweets #promise.

Ben Cohen’s Stand Up Foundation

http://player.theplatform.com/ps/player/pds/PvTSPbANg1&pid=I4qhcd_WuuNqgnoF_pxXakXk9TyxMViy

The very handsome Ben Cohen sat down and spoke with Out Magazine about why he created his Stand Up Foundation to raise awareness and help end bullying.
Take 5-minutes to listen to this former rugby player and GLBT ally talk about why bullying needs to stop and why he felt he had to get involved to help make a difference.
Thank you Ben.

MagicMichaelXXX is from the northwest of England in Macclesfield, Cheshire, Uk. I’m not exactly sure where that is, but I can tell you Michael is funny and fun to follow. He mostly tweets about fitness and more naughty subject matter.

BigJohnson6988 otherwise known as Alex Johnson is a young guy living in San Francisco. Most of his tweets are conversational and revolve around the active life of a young, out, gay man. Needless to say, I live vicariously though his adventures.
Shoegayzie This recent transplant to London known to his friends as Regan Reyes first got my attention with his profile’s play on one of my favorite Smith’s songs. It seems as if lately, I’ve been on a kick following more and more guys from London. What is it about guys in this city… I think you’ll get drawn in too.

Boston becomes a bear den

Tonight only, Boston becomes a bear haven as this happy-go-lucky group of gay fur balls fly into town. Saturday morning they will board the ferries to Provincetown (weekly rentals on the Cape run from Saturday to Saturday).

Many come from far away locations making a one night stay in Boston necessary. Actually through late August going out in Boston on Friday nights is a bit surreal. Most of the local gays pack there bags early and leave for either the Cape (meaning Provincetown) or the coast of Maine (meaning Ogunquit)so there always seems to be a disproportionate number of guys from out-of-town on Fridays. If you are interested in learning more about Bear Week in Provincetown, link here.

Have yourself a great 4th of July

Men Of Twitter

I’m a fan of Twitter. I love how quick and easy it is to use and connect with people. Another perk is what I’ll refer to as the “Men of Twitter” since there are so many handsome guys. Adding to their attraction is the fact they only talk in 140 characters.

NobeMaxMia Is there a bigger flirt on Twitter? I’m not sure. Max’s tweets are of the naughty variety so you’ve been forewarned.Having said that, Max is very engaging and easy to talk to on Twitter.

CuteLiberal Guess who this guy voted for in the last election? This bi-coastal guy mixes political tweets with witty thoughts such as, “Alexander the Great & Richard the Lion-Hearted were both gay. Remember that the next time somebody calls you a #faggot” You’ll love following this guy.

MITguy01 Since when are guys who go to M.I.T. sexy? Chris certainly doesn’t resemble the stereotypical geeky, awkward MIT student. He too keeps his tweets smokin’ hot with sexual innuendo so beware.

4th of July weekend starts today

How will you celebrate and enjoy the long weekend if you live in the US?

This is him!

Dan Savage poignant “It Gets Better Campaign” came about because of a grim reality regarding how marginalized gay and lesbian kids feel and the bullying that further isolates them. This past weekend, I was reminded of the happier side of Dan Savage’s campaign – the part that addresses “The Better”…

There is a young man (18 years old to be exact) who lives in my complex. At first glance he looks like a tough city kid. His Boston accent, stocky build which mimics his gigantic father and cigarette permanently hanging from his lips makes him look anything like his friendly, easy-going personality. This kid (let’s call him Adam), comes from a solid blue collar, take no crap kind of family. We’ve been neighbors for a few years now and while I don’t know his whole story, I do know that he’s gay.

As far as I was aware, he was closeted (maybe he still is). However, the other day he told me with quite a bit of pride that his boyfriend was coming to visit him. I was happy for him and told him so, but it wasn’t until I saw him later this weekend that I realized how happy. On Sunday afternoon as my partner and I were driving through the courtyard we looked up and saw Adam with a friend. When Adam recognized us he lit up and started shouting as loud as he could pointing to the other young man. “This is Him!” I think he must have said it 2-3 more times at the top of his lungs. He was so excited and proud. And seeing this young, tough-kid from Boston all excited to be with his boyfriend and be shouting it for all the world to hear made me think you know what Dan Savage is right, it does get better. And if you’re lucky like Adam – you don’t have to wait that long to realize it.

GreggyBennett – I first started following this guy because I thought he had the best smile I’d seen in a long time. I continue to follow Greg because he makes me laugh. For example his recent tweet “Proud of my roommates for embracing different spellings of the word “Work”. Weeerk. Woooork. Weeerque.” How can you not enjoy following Greg?

Neily82 – This young Londoner looks so dapper. Is it just me or does he bear a resemblance to Adam Levine of Maroon5 fame? Neil is an interesting guy to follow and he joins a growing legion of Londoners that I am both crushing on slightly and enjoying following on Twitter.

MCase513 – Michael is an architectural designer who lives in Boston (lucky for Boston, eh?). He tweets regularly about life and pop culture. However, his most interesting tweets are his witty responses to conversations he has with people on Twitter. Trust me, you’ll enjoy following Michael.

Dot Out Tea Dance at dBar

DotOUT’s 4th Annual Summer Solstice Tea Dance at dBar in Dorchester was on Sunday, June 27th from 4pm – 8pm.

The proceeds from the Tea Dance went to DotOUT – a grassroots, member driven organization committed to the ideals of acceptance, inclusion, fairness, and equality.

Several hundred members of the GLBT community came out to enjoy the good music, tasty beverages and to mingle with friends. While I was not able to capture pictures of everyone who attended, I wanted to post a few photographs that Sergio took for me. Thank you to all for your patience if you posed for one of the pictures.

NY says "I do" to same sex marriage

Massachusetts recognition of same sex marriage 7+ years ago was a game changer which both inspired the GLBT movement and horrified the Christian Coalition. Since then several states have legalized gay marriage, but California’s hateful Proposition 8 and a number of State Constitutional Amendments defining marriage strictly in terms of Man and Woman have proven to be bitter reminders that progress should never be taken for granted.

New York’s recognition of same sex marriage breathes new life into the GLBT and marriage equality movement. First, the state of NY is home to more than 1 million gay men and women. Second, NY is the nation’s 3rd most populous state and home to our country’s largest city. This may not seem like a big deal, but think about the implications. By legalizing same sex marriage in NY, more gay men and women now have the right to marry than in all of MA, CT, VT, NH, IA, and DC combined. That means something and don’t discount it. Its also why New York’s vote will galvanize marriage activists and hopefully bring more money and attention back to California. I hope this will also pressure the US Supreme Court to address the issue.

How will New York’s vote impact you? I’d like to hear from you.

Tweet of the Day: Marriage Equality

This is my response to the moving video from GetEqual. My hope is that in the next few hours that the state of NY will join MA, VT, NH, CT, IA and Washington DC in recognizing same sex marriage.

However, an even greater hope is for President Obama, a man I supported because of his promise of Hope and Change, will be a catalyst for the GLBT community by supporting same sex marriage. President Obama your time on the sidelines is over, its time for you to #EvolveAlready.

If you are on Twitter, perhaps you’ll consider sending a message to President Obama.

51 year old marries 16 year old: Must be love

Recently a 51 year old actor married a 16 year old girl. Anderson Cooper provides an insightful and rather humorous take on the relationship, bride and groom and parents. Its worth the watch.

I might add that currently the NY State Legislature is debating if same sex marriage should be recognized. Many opponents claim that recognizing marriage between two men or women makes a mockery of the institution and takes away from their own marriage. Hmmm… is it really the gay community that is making a mockery of the institution of marriage? I think not. I’d like to get your thoughts if you have any to share.

Thank you to Rob from VAwhere I found the video.
