The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the annual fundraising party that Toys for Joys hosts to raise money and collect gifts for underpriviledged children in our community. The cruel irony is this year there are more children living in poverty and in need of your kindness and charity.
Without having the benefit of a large party to bring people together, that makes this year’s challenge to collect enough donations to distribute gifts to children that much more difficult. As a long time supporter of T4J and someone who believes in their mission, I’m asking you to share this message and join me in making a donation to this worthwhile charity that was started and has been nurtured by our LGBTQ community.
T4J20 Make A Donation Today
This year T4J is teaming up with The Wonderfund of Massachusetts, a private non-profit organization that works on behalf of children engaged with the MA Department of Children and Families. Donations to T4J will help fill most of the Wonderfund offices with toys and gifts for the children and families they serve. Your dontations will also go to support the following groups with toys and gifts this year:
- Multicultural AIDS Coalition (Jamaica Plain)
- IBA (South End)
- Eastern Service Worker’s Association (Dorchester, East Boston, Mattapan)
- Urban Farming Insitute (Mattapan)
- United South End Settlements (South End)

Toys for Joys is this Saturday. Get your tickets ASAP.
Although Sergio and I are traveling and not able to attend this year’s event, I wanted to give a shout out for this year’s Toys for Joys celebration, that will take place this Saturday, December 14th at the Artists for Humanity Epicenter in Southie. Unlike most fundraisers, this event is devoid of rubber chicken dinners and long speeches, but organizers do ask that anyone who buys a ticket also purchase 3 gifts (minimum value $20-$25 per gift) to be donated:
tots (3-mos to 5 yrs)
tweens (6-11 yrs)
If your last name begins with A-M you purchase toys for a girl and if your last name begins with N-Z purchase gifts for boys. Gifts should be unwrapped and will be placed under the tree.

Many people in our community are familiar with Toys for Joys, a charitable organization that hosts a fun party each December to collect gifts that are in turn shared with local charities so children in the area will receive thoughtful gifts during the holiday season.
T4J CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS – MONDAY, MARCH 12
What many (yours truly included) may not have realized is that this year marks the organizations 10th year and the organization is looking to expand their efforts to also help homeless LGBT youth. The group wants to use the platform they’ve created to support this new initiative and they are looking for volunteers willing to lend their time and talent to help.
All are welcome to come and learn more on Monday, March 12 at 6PM at the Revere Hotel in Bay Village. Please help this worthy organization by spreading word about this upcoming meeting and put the date in your calendar. You can learn more about T4J here: facebook.com/T4JBOSTON
I want to feature the LGBTQ groups and organizations that help people connect and enrich Boston’s gay life. If you’d like to have your club / team featured, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or via FB messenger.
Have you registered for this year’s Toys for Joys party this coming Saturday?
The event’s venue has moved to Bay Village at the Revere Hotel Boston Common – Space 57. For those of you who may not be familiar with this social party, it helps collect and distribute toys for children in and around Boston who might otherwise not have gifts to open on Christmas day. Unlike many other fundraisers, T4J is devoid of speeches and rubber chicken dinners and is fun event that gets better each year.
