Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

poetry, family, NH, Lake

What perfect timing for this annual winter post. Yesterday Boston was sunny and in the low 60s and this morning it is snowing. Above is a photo I’ve been using in recent years when I publish this poem. It was taken several years ago at dusk, while the snow was still falling. Sergio and I were walking back to my parent’s house on Lake Winnipesaukee.

STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The poem was written by Robert Frost one hundred years ago in 1922 while he was living in Vermont. It was published a year later in Frost’s New Hampshire volume, earning the poet the 1924 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

Vintage gay

This looks like an intense make out session in progress. Who would’ve snapped such a photograph? I’d have been ticked for sure. Based on the radio on the desk and the hairstyles in the photo, I’m going to guess this was taken in the early 1980s. Can anyone help identify when this may have been taken?

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Temptation Tuesday

Lucien Leon Laviscount

Lucien is a 20-something British actor who many in the United States might recognize from the season 2 Netflix series “Emily in Paris’ where Lucien plays the coy banker who flirts like a pro with Emily.

I first featured the actor as a Monday Mancandy post in February 2021, but his classic good looks and rising popularity mean that I’ll probably be tempted to feature him again in the future.

Men in kilts

Found out that this photo was actually doctored and the original picture is quite innocent. Richard Findlay is the photographer and was nice enough to share the link in the comments section below.

This week’s photo comes from the NSFW Twitter account @Str8WithChaser. The original photo is too risqué for my pg-13 blog, but the unedited version is on the Twitter account or you can HMU.

Much thanks to avid reader and commenter, Angel from Spain, for sharing this week’s mancandy photo. It’s been too long since I’ve last featured a ginger for this weekly post.
