Fireworks over Boston Harbor tonight at 8:30PM

Fireworks-on-Boston-HarborTo celebrate Labor Day weekend Boston Harbor Now and the Boston Harbor Hotel will be hosting a fireworks display over Boston Harbor tonight, starting at 8:30PM. The fireworks will take place at two locations to provide multiple viewing options. According to the press release, the best places to watch will be from Pier’s Park in East Boston, Fan Pier in the Seaport, or Christopher Columbus Park in the North End.

The fireworks will be synced to music via music streaming app Atlas Pyrovision, and you can download the free app during the show to simultaneously listen to the soundtrack. NECN will also be airing the display in real-time for folks who would like to watch from the comfort of their homes.

Move in day in Boston is tomorrow

September 1Many of the streets of Boston are littered with unwanted furniture tonight. Most apartments in Boston have a September 1 start to their lease (a nod to how much of an impact the student population has here in Boston).  To those of you living in n’hoods heavily populated with student renters, be patient and make sure you don’t need to use the streets tomorrow.

The city of Boston is asking residents to rate the city’s priorities as it looks to the future and plans for Boston 2030. After getting initial feedback earlier this spring from more than 10,000 residents, the city  is now asking residents to prioritize the themes. Ideas like developing more affordable housing, improving public transit (and infrastructure in general), creating more open space and encouraging entrepreneurial ventures are just some of the concepts shared.

Help Boston prioritize these concepts and share your thoughts.

Andrew Square project: Washington Village

Dorchester, Southie, South Boston, Real estateEarlier this week the Boston Redevelopment Authority approved the Washington Village project, which will reshape a five-acre swath of South Boston turning the mostly unused space into more than 650 new residential units, a plaza and 99,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space. The new development will be near Andrew Square between Old Colony and Dorchester avenues.

The development is not only one of the largest residential projects approved but it also stands out for combining both homeownership units and rentals with 17% of the residential units reserved for affordable, lower- and middle income residents; targeting what The Boston Globe article from earlier this week referred to as ‘middle-class clientele’, that has largely been left out of the current building boom.

You can read the full article about Washington Village in The Boston Globe.

If you missed Ben Cohen in Provincetown, you can still meet the handsome hunk at Kiehls Boston on Newbury Street this Wednesday from 11-12. He will be there to help raise awareness and money for amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research).
