Vintage gay

Much thanks to my friend Jim Lundy who lives here in the South End for sharing this photo for my weekly vintage gay post. I’ve shared this previously but the photo of two African American servicemen posing together in 1951 with their names scrawled across the photo is definitely worth a re-post. I think my favorite thing about the photo is how Davis has his chin resting on his “friend’s” shoulder.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Monday morning mancandy

This morning I’m serving mancandy with a side of humor to help you start your Monday morning. The shirt comes from a new apparel company started by David Goulart who some may recall ran the very successful  Wicked Gay Blog, oh how I miss that blog!

I thought the photo of this handsome guy modeling one of their shirts makes for a great mancandy Monday post. Perhaps iy will also give you a good laugh like it did for me. You can check out the company’s full line of apparel by clicking on the button below. They make for great gifts.

New gay programming on Dekkoo

Last month I shared this poll, soliciting your feedback and ideas on what you would like to see more of on BosGuy.com and an overwhelming number of you indicated that you’d like to see more information about gay entertainment and programming. While there are many websites that follow the entertainment industry, it is remarkably difficult to learn about new and upcoming programming for and about gay men.

I’ve teamed up with Dekkoo (pronounced “DECK-koo”), the premiere subscription-based streaming service dedicated to gay men with the largest streaming collection of gay-centric entertainment available. Let me know your thoughts about this new post, how I can improve it, and if it’s of interest to you.

Below is recently released content on Dekkoo, available for download and viewing with a subscription.

Scruffy Sunday

Am I the only one who is freaked out by the tattoos this guy has on his right hand? Regardless, it’s time to get up, hit the shower and get dressed. Enjoy the day everyone.

This photo is one of several images of men called “Loving: A Photographic History of Men in Love, 1850s-1950s.” The image above is a photograph, known as a cabinet card. This is a process that dates back to around 1880. You can see the other photos shared here. Much thanks to friend and longtime BosGuy reader, Jim Lundy for sharing this with me.

48 Mass. companies score 100% in HRC’s 2021 Corporate Equity Index

The LGBTQ+ community once again has a friend and ally in the White House, but equally important is the increasing number of friends and allies we have in the business community. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) recently released their Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for 2021 and the news is good. A recordbreaking 767 businesses met all the criteria to earn a 100% rating and the designation of being a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” Locally, more Massachusetts businesses earned that distinction as well.

The index, started in 2002, serves as a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees and serves as a driving force for LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion. There are three key pillars to the index rating that focus on: (1) non-discrimination policies across business entities, (2) equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families and (3) supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility.

Forty-eight (48) companies in Massachusetts earned a 100% score from the HRC CEI 2021. This represents a 20% increase from the 2020 index when only 40 companies in Massachusetts earned a perfect score.

For details about the CEI or to download the full report visit: Corporate Equality Index 2021.

Men in kilts

In December I shared a Tik Tok video of Scottish actor, Matt Kennedy, after Joe from the The Closet Professor blog brought him to my attention. His boy-next-door looks made me want to feature him again.

When Hugh Nini and Neal Treadwell stumbled across a photo from the 1920s of two men in a tender embrace they thought it was one-of-a-kind. But things changed when they found more photographs. The result of their unexpected discovery is a moving book, portraying male romance over the course of a century.

I’ve shared several of the photos from this collection in the past and will likely continue to share more in the future but the BBC 5 minute video published in November 2020 is worth watching. Above is a screen capture of Hugh speaking about what the collection of these photos represent and their significance. Click on the photo to launch the interesting video.
