Oh Danny Boy

Enjoy this trio as they sing Oh Danny Boy.

They Might Be Giants back in Boston

TMBGThey Might Be Giants (TMBG) may be the last indie rock band I started listening to in high school / college that is still recording and touring. Best known for classics like Birdhouse in Your Soul and Istanbul (Not Constantinople), the band is currently touring to promote their newest album, Nanobots – now out on iTunes. They will be returning to play in Boston on Wednesday and Thursday, April 3rd and 4th at the Paradise Rock Club.

Jorge Perez Gonzalez: Ass percussionist

Berklee School of Music graduate, Jorge Perez Gonzalez, has released this rather odd video of him using four female bottoms as improvised bongo drums.  I’m at a total loss for words but thought it was funny to watch.

Legends of Summer tour comes to Fenway

Legends of Summer tourBy now news of Justin Timberlake and Jay Z touring this summer has been broadcast far and wide.  Apparently their joint performance at the Grammy’s earlier this month was a glimpse of what one can expect.

The “Legends of Summer” tour will be coming to Fenway Park on Saturday, August 10th.  If you’re hoping to see this show, just a quick heads up that there is Facebook pre-sale on Wed 2/27 10am local time, Code: LEGENDS.  General sales begin Thurs 2/28 10am local time.  Ticketmaster link for tickets here.

Chris Sosa – You Turn It On

My friend, Chris Sosa, has released his first single, You Turn It On. It’s a catchy dance tune, and I want to wish him much luck.  If you like it you may purchase it from iTunes here.

Gin Blossoms

1990s rock band, Gin Blossoms, play in Boston tonight at Royale. What a flashback. Who else remembers when their song, Jealousy, first came out?

Single Ladies Gone Wrong

I don’t know how I missed this video and want to thank my friend Joe for sharing this classic.  The video’s title, Single Ladies Gone Wrong, really sums this up best. I promise this will give you a good chuckle.

Mariah Carey’s biggest fan: Alex Nicolaou

It is now Friday afternoon on the east coast in the United States, and I thought I’d share this post before I sign off for the day. I hope this makes you smile and gives you a good chuckle.

A few weeks ago Late Night talk show host, Jimmy Fallon, broadcast a video with his band, The Roots, and Mariah Carey singing All I Want for Christmas.  Check out Alex in the UK (possibly Mariah Carey’s biggest fan) watching the performance for the first time.

If Fallon’s video made you laugh check out Alex watching the song from start to finish here.  Its hilarious.

2012 pop music mash up

Probably the best mash up I’ve seen for pop music from 2012.  Was this a good year for you? Hearing these songs will probably make you smile and remember some of those happy memories. Enjoy the mash up.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones Hometown Throwdown

Hometown ThrowdownTickets to the Mighty Mighty Bosstones 15th annual hometown throwdown are now on sale.  I went to a few of these concerts back when they were hosted at the Middle East in Cambridge and I have to admit its one of the best shows in town.  If you love ska – you’ll love this show.

Happy Monday

Monday MorningIt’s Monday morning and I’m in need of a smile, but none are to be found so I thought I’d add this song from the Happy Mondays to get me going.

Hallelujah – 1989

Gangnam Style by PSY

Catchy or Annoying – What do you think?

Move over Carly Rae Jepsen, your catchy pop tune from the summer Call Me Maybe has been supplanted by an equally catchy, although unlikely pop song from Korea.  This unintelligible song by PSY has climbed to the top of the charts in the USA, and the rather odd dance moves from this video are inspiring many, funny spoofs.

Idina Menzel in Boston this week

Idina Menzel’s tour Barefoot at the Symphony comes Boston this week when she performs at the Wang on Saturday night, September 29th.

Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to see Idina perform part of her show when she was a special guest on the Western Caribbean Sea Atlantis Cruise.  Although the sets are the same, I’m inclined to think that her comments may have been a bit more raw knowing she was performing in front of an entirely gay audience. If you are going to the show in Boston we can always compare notes after.
