Gay for Good Boston – Young Achievers School

volunteeringBoston’s chapter of Gay for Good (G4G Boston for short) returns to the Young Achievers Science & Math School in Mattapan on Saturday, May 9th.  Volunteers can meet at 9:30 a.m. to help with planting, mulching, and other small projects around the school.  For those interested, plan to go out for lunch after.

The 47th Annual Walk for Hunger will be held this Sunday, May 3rd and will bring tens of thousands of people together to work towards alleviating hunger in MA. Stationary Marshals play one of the most important roles on Walk Day! Stationary Marshal Volunteers guide our Walkers and cheer them on along the 20-mile route. You’ll receive a free Walk for Hunger Volunteer t-shirt!

This is a last minute request, and we’re eager to help walk organizers of the Walk for Hunger. Please participate if you’re available. There is a second group who will be meeting at Mass. Ave. / Memorial Dr. in the afternoon. More information is available on G4G Boston’s Facebook Page here.

BAGLY’s Out For Youth is Thursday, May 7

BAGLYThis year Boston Alliance of Gay & Lesbian Youth (BAGLY) will celebrate its 35th anniversary providing life-saving, life changing programming and services to LGBTQ youth throughout Massachusetts. In addition to celebrating our 35th Anniversary, BAGLY will award former Governor Deval Patrick with the 2015 Queer Activist Honorary Degree.

Each year this event draws guests from across the state including some of Boston’s most prominent philanthropists, state and local government officials, and BAGLY’s most dedicated supporters. If you would like to show your support for this fantastic LGBTQ Youth nonprofit, you can purchase tickets to attend their Out For Youth 2015 party on Thursday, May 7th at the New England Aquarium.

Victory Programs Dinnerfest 2015

Victory Programs, BosGuyLast Sunday Victory Programs hosted their annual Dinnerfest fundraiser at the Red Lantern and true to form this very social event proved to be fun from start to finish.  Passed food and a busy bar helped encourage people to bid on the many restaurant and food-related silent auction items.

This fundraiser has been going on in Boston for years and helps this organization provide critical services to our community.   With more than 100 packages from Boston’s best restaurants it also provides you with an opportunity to feel good about donating to a worthy charity and getting a chance to bid on dining packages from some of the best restaurants in Boston.  Get your tickets to the event here.

Win a pair of tickets to LifeSavor 2015

Community ServingsEarlier this month I wrote about Community Servings’ spring fundraiser, LifeSavor, hosted at the Langham Hotel in Boston on Thursday, April 30th. The event draws approximately 900 patrons who come together to help raise money for Community Servings by bidding on items included in their amazing silent auction and by dining out at one of the 75 participating restaurants.

Win a pair of tickets to LifeSavor 2015   Tickets LifeSavor2015 start at $200 per person but Community Servings has kicked off a fun contest that could win you a pair of tickets to this program.

Contest Rules are as follows:
1 – Snap a photo at a LifeSavor-participating restaurant (full list of restaurants is included here: lifesavor.org/restaurants).
2- Share it on either Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #LifeSavor2015 and the restaurant name.

NOTE: The contest closes on Thursday, April 23rd at Midnight.

Tickets for BGMC’s Crescendo party now on sale

BGMCThe Boston Gay Men’s Chorus signature fundraiser (appropriately called), Crescendo, is one month from today on Saturday, May 9th at the W Hotel.

This year’s special guest is Bianca del Rio – the self-proclaimed “clown in a dress” and Season 6 winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race.  This year the BGMC is very excited to include some amazing auction items like:

• 2 fantastic seats to see Kristen Chenowith “On the Twentieth Century” on Broadway and stay at the W Hotel in New York during NYC’s annual Pride.

• VIP tickets to be in the 5th row for Bette Midler at TD Garden.

Community Servings’ LifeSavor 2015 is Thursday, April 30th

Community ServingsLast year I attended the LifeSavor event, which caters to food lovers and raises funds for Community Servings – a local non-profit that is dedicated to preparing and delivering meals to individuals and families who are homebound with an acute, life-threatening illness.

Hosted at The Langham, Boston, the event begins with an elaborate cocktail reception and an exciting silent auction for 900 guests. After the cocktail reception, trolleys will take you away guests to one of 75 of Greater Boston’s best restaurants for intimate, multi-course dinner parties hosted by individual donors and corporate sponsors. Gay for Good Boston heads to The Greater Boston Food Bank

Gay for GoodAlthough it may seem like April is far away, the reality is that it will be here in just a couple of weeks and Boston’s chapter of Gay for Good is looking for volunteers to help them on Wednesday, April 8th from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at The Greater Boston Food Bank.  If you’d like to lend a helping hand you need to RSVP.  There is more information about this volunteering event on their website.

You will help inspect, sort, and pack food items for the Greater Boston Food Bank, and your effort will directly help local hunger relief agencies.  #PayItForward

Join The Welcoming Committee: Summer volunteer applications now available

The Welcoming CommitteeYou may not believe it but summer is just a few months away and The Welcoming Committee (TWC for short) is accepting applications for the summer session of their volunteer Corps.  Applications for the May-August summer session, a nationwide volunteer program, will remain open through Sunday, April 5th.

If you are new to town or newly single and looking to make new friends / connections this might be a great opportunity for you to consider.

Fenway Men’s Event

Fenway Health ClinicThe Fenway Men’s Event is right around the corner.  Will you be attending the black tie fundraiser for Fenway Health?  This will be the second year in a row that Sergio and I will miss the party.  The Men’s Event is an annual tradition for many in the Boston area to hop into a tuxedo and come together to help raise money for Boston’s largest LGBT clinic, Fenway Health.  More than 1,300 are expected to attend this year’s program that will raise more than $600,000.
