Ptown state of mind

ProvincetownSergio and I are heading to Provincetown this afternoon for our first visit of the season.  I’m looking forward to the time away and happy that it will be spent with friends on an off-week (meaning no major theme week).  I plan on relaxing with friends, maybe doing some kayaking in the harbor and catching a show or two.

Below are a couple of photos from past visits to Provincetown.

Bears and TwinksAs Bear Week in Provincetown starts to wind down and non-Bears start to arrive on the Friday afternoon ferry, lets remember that Twinks and Bears can get along.

Bear Week BingoIt is Bear Week in Provincetown although you probably already figured that out by my current header which makes that fairly obvious.  Friend and fellow blogger, David, over at WGB posted this “Bear Week Bingo” card and I thought it was too funny not to share. So for any of you in Provincetown this week, print off a few cards and share with your friends.

Chelsea’s Mom by Well Strung

Well Strung is a talented quartet out of NYC who spend their summers in Provincetown performing at the Ptown Art House.  This summer they tweaked the melody of Fountains of Wayne’s 2003 hit Stacy’s Mom to show their support for Hillary Clinton in their song Chelsea’s Mom.

If you’ve not heard this yet, check it out.  The quartet was able to perform and meet Hillary when she visited Provincetown this past weekend for a fundraiser. Well done – Well Strung.

GLAD’s summer party in Ptown is July 25th

The MacArthur FoundationGLAD’S 34th Annual Summer Party

The Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders is a local non profit that has been helping the LGBT community here and around the country since it was first formed in 1978. In recent years GLAD’s Civil Rights Project Director, Mary Bonauto, has received much attention as a Marriage Equality advocate with significant rulings in cases like Goodridge v. Department of Public Health which made Massachusetts the first state in which same-sex couples could marry in 2004 and more recently arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court in the Obergefell v. Hodges case on April 28, 2015. A that case will determine if state bans against same-sex marriage are constitutional and considered one of the most important civil rights cases to come before the U.S. Supreme Court in modern history.

Show your support for the work GLAD is doing on behalf of marriage equality and other important civil liberties by joining them at their 34th Annual Summer Party.

Ptown gallery walk

Ptown, art, AMP Gallery

Photo by: Keith Krisa at the AMP Gallery at 148 Commercial Street

While tens of thousands have descended upon Provincetown for Independence Week parties and celebrations, a weekly tradition worth checking out (if only to take a break from all the revelries) is the Ptown Friday Gallery Walk.

While many think of the East End when they think of Provincetown’s art galleries, don’t overlook West End galleries like the AMP Gallery at 148 Commercial St. where Keith Krisa’s exhibit opened and will run through Wednesday, July 8th.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  Ptown offers a little bit of something for everyone.  While visiting try something you may not normally do.  You might be surprised by how much you enjoy perusing Provincetown’s art galleries.

Provincetown: An eccentric’s sanctuary

No other town captures my imagination or makes me feel as at home as Provincetown.  This video from CBS gives you a glimpse of some of what Ptown has to offer and its rich cultural heritage which all of us have benefited from.

Ptown humor

Ptown, ProvincetownThis is one of those annoying geography-themed bits of humor that makes absolutely no sense if you’ve never been to Provincetown but makes me smirk every time I see it.

2015 Provincetown live entertainment and shows

I love ProvincetownProvincetown has amassed an amazing collection of nightly live performances for the summer of 2015.  Tried and true talents like Varla Jean Merman and Well Strung are back with new shows at the Art House on Commercial Street, while Ryan Landry and The Gold Dust Orphans are back with one of their funniest productions ever and of course Ms. Richfield 1981 is at The Crown & Anchor.

In addition to Ptown regulars, big names are coming to perform so if you have plans to visit, try to order tickets ahead of time to see a show while you are there.
