Furry Friday

Let me introduce you to Kris short for Krishnanand. He is half Indian from Calabasas but now lives in Brooklyn. He is on Instagram and Twitter if you like and want to follow him. I find him distractingly handsome and always enjoy the shirtless photos that show up in my feed.

Vintage gay

men of color, vintage men of color, black gay couple

I believe I’ve previously posted this photograph but it is so rare that I come across photos of men of color from years past I like to share them whenever I can. Based on their clothes, can anyone help identify when these two handsome men may have been photographed?

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Cupid undie run in Boston is Saturday

This February more than a dozen cities around the United States will be hosting “Cupid’s Undie Run” as a fundraiser for neurofibromatosis (NF) Research through the Children’s Tumor Foundation. The one mile-ish run around Boston’s Fenway neighborhood is a lot of fun.

If you’d like to learn more visit Cupid’s Undie Run website. Homebase for the Boston Cupid Undie Run is Game On! at Fenway Park. To participate, everyone is asked to register (remember this is a fundraiser for a good cause). You can register to join in the fun, here.

Hopefully the caption I’ve shared below inspires you to offer up one or two of your own. Leave a funny caption in the comment section, and I’ll approve it for readers to enjoy.

Boston Ballet DREAMstate

The Boston Ballet has a very exciting production coming in March called DREAMstate, which includes three very different performances.

3-Part ballet: classic, modern, and rock (Mar 17 -27th)

The first ballet opens with George Balanchine’s Chaconne. Followed by Bella Figura (shown above), a contemporary ballet choreographed by Jiří Kylián and danced by The Boston Ballet back in 2011. I remember seeing this opening night and being surprised when I realized female dancers were topless.

The production will conclude with The Boston Ballet performing what I’ll refer to as a “Rock Ballet” with a world premiere called DEVIL’S/eye. The dance is choreographed by Stephen Galloway to music by The Rolling Stones, including Wild Horses, Paint it Black, Midnight Rambler, and Jumping Jack Flash.

DREAMstate performances will run from March 17-27, 2022 and tickets are now on sale. Tickets start at $39, and if you make your purchase by Tuesday, February 22 you can save $20 by using the code REALM2B.

For this week’s post I figured I’d re-share Patrick Lentz’s photos of Nick from Gloucester, MA. Hopefully Nick’s flirtatious photo will be a distraction and help you start your Monday morning with a smile. You can see more of Nick in my Valentine’s Day post back in 2016.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

poetry, family, NH, Lake

What perfect timing for this annual winter post. Yesterday Boston was sunny and in the low 60s and this morning it is snowing. Above is a photo I’ve been using in recent years when I publish this poem. It was taken several years ago at dusk, while the snow was still falling. Sergio and I were walking back to my parent’s house on Lake Winnipesaukee.

STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The poem was written by Robert Frost one hundred years ago in 1922 while he was living in Vermont. It was published a year later in Frost’s New Hampshire volume, earning the poet the 1924 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.

Exclusive screening of documentary: 5B

Tuesday, March 15th Fenway Health and the Coolidge Corner Theatre will host a complimentary screening of the documentary film 5B, which honors the amazing nurses, physicians, and caregivers who built Ward 5B at San Francisco General Hospital in 1983 — during the height of the AIDS crisis.

Not all superheroes wear capes & masks
Some wear scrubs & stethoscopes

This is an an inspirational story about men and women who took extraordinary action to comfort, protect and care for the patients of the first HIV/AIDS ward unit in the United States. The program is free but will be limited to 60 participants so register to get your seat while they last.

The film will be followed by a brief Q&A with former Ward 5B nurse Alison Moed, Boston Association of Nurses in AIDS Care Chapter President Justin Alves, and Fenway Health’s Adrianna Boulin, Director of Community Impact and Engagement.
