Tweet of the day: stupidity has no limits

So true! Even though this is a well known quote from Einstein, this former Men of Twitter and a local guy is very witty and worth following.  You can check him out @DavidGanhao.

Verna + 28 degrees = fun

Much loved Boston drag queen, Verna Turbulence will be spreading holiday cheer as only Verna knows how at 28 Degrees tonight from 7:30 – 10:00PM.

Verna and a few special guests will be performing to get you in the mood for the holidays.   What could be better than ending your weekend with a delicious martini at 28 Degrees while watching Verna vamp it up?

28 Degrees is at 1 Appleton Street

BosGuy makes bruschetta

One of my favorite snacks or starters is bruschetta. It is an easy to make antipasto and a staple at any Italian restaurant.   Although toppings can vary, generally ingredients include: bread, garlic, onions, tomatoes, cheese, herbs and olive oil, but you can add whatever you like.

From start to finish (prep to cleaning) takes less than 30 minutes and although cost will vary this recipe cost me about $6.00 and made 15 individual pieces; plenty to share with friends (mmm…)

Ingredients: 2 cloves of garlic, 1 baguette, 1 tomato, 1/2 vidalia onion, 1/3 cup of shredded cheese (whatever you like and have works) 1/4 cup of chopped basil, olive oil, and salt.

Step 1: Chop the baguette into 3/4 ” to 1″ slices and rub a raw garlic clove over both sides of each slice. In a cup or small bowl mix olive oil, salt and dried Italian herbs and brush onto the baguette slices.

Step 2: Put slices of baguettes under the broiler for 1 minute on each side to quickly toast. This will add a crunch when you bite into the bruschetta. While doing this – saute the chopped onions and minced garlic for just a minute or two.

Step 3: Combine the sauteed onion and garlic, chopped tomato, chopped basil, cheese and a dash of salt and spoon contents onto warmed, toasted baguette. Completely cover slices with toppings.

oops… forgot to snap the picture…

Step 4: Put back into the broiler for 1-2 minutes.  This will warm the toppings and allow the cheese to melt. Once you remove from the oven, plate and enjoy.

A few tips:                                                                                                                                       Spend a little extra on the ingredients by getting fresh bread and flavorful vegetables. You won’t do yourself any favors by skimping; the fresher the ingredients the better it will taste.

Lightly drizzle olive oil over baguettes and toppings prior to putting in oven.

These are best served and eaten warm.

Boston Santa Speedo Run

The much talked about Boston Santa Speedo Run will take place one week from today.  This fun(ny) 1-mile run through Boston’s trendy Back Bay neighborhood in December earns a lot of laughs for both spectators and runners. It has also become an unofficial tradition of yours truly to go down and watch these crazy runners warm up and run down Boylston Street so be sure to check back late Saturday afternoon after I post my 2011 video of the Santa Speedo Run.  In the interim, check out the video I created from last year’s run.

The 2011 charity benefiting from the funds raised in this years race will be Play Ball foundation.  If you’d like to learn more about this annual run which is now replicated in cities across the US and Canada, you can visit here.

Frozen Fenway

The Boston Globe has published the Frozen Fenway calendar which spans 16-days. This year, the calendar includes a free skating day, six college hockey games (notably University of New Hampshire vs University of Maine on January 7th) as well as boys and girls high school hockey games.

Are you a hockey enthusiast or interested in joining the crowds looking to participate in the Mayor’s community skate day scheduled for January 1st?  Check out the full schedule and more details here.

Tweet of the day: Grindr

This Tweet was actually sent during the Thanksgiving Holiday but I figured it has lasting power and could be shared at any time.  If you are unfamiliar, check out GaySiri (and ask her to Tweet a bit more often – she’s really quite funny).

I assume this was the original intention for Grindr so guys when you are out at a gay club, please put away your apps and try talking to someone, and please try something a bit more interesting than ‘Sup?

BosGuy’s maiden (Atlantis) voyage

Earlier this week I surprised my other half with news that we would be going on the Atlantis Allure Caribbean Cruise January 29 – February 5, 2012.  He has always wanted to go on a gay cruise and this is a milestone birthday so with a bit of trepidation I booked the trip earlier this year and waited until this week to share the news so he would get excited about his birthday, which is now in a little less than two months time.

Although the two of us have never been on a cruise ship – let alone this massive gay cruise which will include 5,000+ men – we are in good company and will be joined by seven other friends who are familiar with Atlantis.   Let me know if you too will be joining this floating circuit party in the Caribbean.

Cyndi Lauper would like you to try this on…

You may have forgotten how good you look in red

World AIDS Day, 1-December

Today is World AIDS Day.  Acknowledged in nearly every nation, this day draws attention to the fact that AIDS is still very present.  Now 30-years old, HIV / AIDS is no longer the death warrant it was when it first appeared and was referred to as a “Gay Cancer”.

  • Despite progress that has been made in educating the public here in the US and globally, the United Nations estimates that a jaw dropping 33 million people live with HIV / AIDS
  • AIDS has killed more than 25 million people and more than 580,000 Americans.  This ranks AIDS with malaria and tuberculosis as one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world
  • More than 15 million children have been orphaned by HIV
  • In the US more 1.1 million people are living with HIV/AIDS and the CDC estimates 20%  (220,000 people) do not know they are HIV+

The Boston Living Center will be hosting a World AIDS Day celebration, lighting the Prudential Tower red.  Today’s ceremony will occur in the center of the mall near the customer service desk in the atrium and will run from 4:30 – 6:00pm.  You can read more about the program on the event facebook page.

Contact your local AIDS Service Organization (ASO) to volunteer or make a donation.  New England has several worthwhile ASOs but I prefer to donate to the AIDS Action Committee of MA.

Anthony Greenfield

This 6’2″, green-eyed hunk caught my eye awhile back on the Definition of a Man  blog. If you check out his modeling page here, you’ll see when he’s not on the runway he looks very much like the boy next door.

Glammed up for the runway or just walking around NYC in jeans and a t-shirt he’s more than fine in my opinion.  If you like what you see, Google his name and oodles of other photos will appear creating a feast for your eyes.

Movember

Early in November I wrote about how November is Lung Cancer awareness month.  If you didn’t read the post, please check it out here.

This past month you may have noticed more men sporting a mustache and secretly thought to yourself “Since when did the 70’s porn look come back into style?” Although I won’t speak for all the guys, many had grown a mustache for something called Movember.  Each year November (or rather Movember) thousands of men grow mustaches as a way to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Even if you didn’t grow a mustache for Movember you can still contribute financially by visiting the site here.

I didn’t participate mostly because my face cannot grow a mustache (I can barely generate a 5 o’clock shadow after a few days), but here are some pictures of friends who did.

Deep thought of the day: Help

Some challenges are beyond our abilities and there is no shame in asking for help.  Likewise, lending a helping hand rather than leaving it to someone else speaks volumes about who you are and the values you live your life by.

Out magazine: Sex and Love survey

OUT magazine’s second annual Sex and Love survey is currently open.

The online survey takes about 10 – 15 minutes to fill out.  The results will be tabulated and reported in OUT magazine’s February 2012 issue.

Mean Girls Monday

After returning to work from a four day weekend, I’m in no mood for the BS otherwise commonly referred to as Monday.  Today, I’m hanging with these girls.  GRRR…

Men of Twitter

Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. As always, suggestions for profiles to feature are welcome. If you’d like to follow me on twitter, you can find me @BosGuy. Below are this week’s #MenOfTwitter.

If so inclined, leave them a nice comment and start following on Twitter.

GayJim108 – Originally from Brooklyn, Jim now is part of Boston’s longest, most successful morning radio show, working as the producer for the Matty in the Morning show on KISS 108.  Jim is has a devilish grin and throngs of fans that go far beyond the Boston gay community.  The photo above was taken by yours truly at the dBar Harvest Tea Dance earlier this Fall. #WickedAwesomeDJ

DJBrightEyes – This 30-year old holds a massage therapist degree but has branched out to personal training and plans to pursue his education in nutrition.  DJ has dreams of opening a wellness center where he can teach cooking classes (a hobby of his), conduct workouts and help people live happier, healthier lives. This 30-something from the Midwest is contemplating a relocation.  Boston, Chicago, D.C., and California all have made his short list. #Hunk

DenisBevacqua – Denis joins a large (and growing list) of men from Brazil featured as a Men of Twitter. This 20-something is a lot more than good looks. He pursued his MBA in the US and has lived in New England, Lake Tahoe and even San Diego.  He now lives in paradise (a.k.a. Florianopolis, Google it if you don’t believe me). Denis has a blog which is very much worth checking out at chicquero.com. #BrazilianBlogger
