Check out Sabrina playing at Christopher Columbus park tonight

SabrinaChristopher Columbus park has been showing movies for free on a large screen each Sunday starting at sunset since mid July.  Tonight is your last chance to catch one of the free movies.  This week they will be showing the 1995 remake,  Sabrina.

Make a night of it by ordering from one of your favorite North End pizzerias and bringing it over to the park – dinner and a movie under the stars.

Tomorrow night if you happen to be in Ptown I’d encourage you to consider participating in the Friday Gallery Walk, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Provincetown is home to some truly exceptional artists and is a wonderful way to enjoy a beautiful evening out.

Anyone contemplating visiting galleries should check out The Alden Gallery at 423 Commercial Street.  Joerg Dressler, a former South End resident and friend, will have work on display as part of a two-person show, “Joerg Dressler and Heather Toland”.  Their works will be on display and available for sale through Thursday, August 20th (Carnival Week).

New James Bond movie trailer: SPECTRE

Last week a new trailer for the forthcoming James Bond movie, SPECTRE, was released. The film which stars Daniel Craig as James Bond and Ralph Fiennes as the new “M” is scheduled to open in the US on November 6, 2015.

GhostbustersWhile Hollywood is busy using much of downtown Boston to film the sequel Ghostbusters 2 starring Chris Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Cecily Strong (to name a few stars), you can enjoy watching the original 1984 hit starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver out in JP tonight.

Do I sound gay now playing at the Kendall Square cinema: David Thorpe in Boston for tonight’s shows

David ThorpeEarlier this spring I wrote the post, Gay themed summer movies, which talked about the documentary Do I sound gay? Today David Thorpe’s documentary opened in 14 new cities including Boston, Chicago, Portand, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle & Washington, DC; previously you could only see this film in Atlanta, Los Angeles, NYC and Philadelphia.

Meet writer/director David Thorpe in person today & tomorrow, July 24 & 25 for Q&As after the 7:05pm shows and to introduce the 9:45pm shows! Tickets here.

The documentary confronts Thorpe’s anxiety over sounding “gay” by talking to LGBT icons like Dan Savage and George Takei, and exploring the cultural history of the gay voice in film and television. You can get your tickets to see Do I sound gay? by linking to the Kendall Square cinema website, here.

FIGMENT Boston is July 25-26

Viktor Genel, MoleculeFIGMENT is a forum for the creation and display of participatory and interactive art by emerging artists across disciplines that began in July 2007 as a free, one-day event on Governors Island in New York Harbor.  Since then, FIGMENT has grown significantly.  FIGMENT’s vision for art is to take it out of galleries and into the world we live in.  Check out this free interactive art event in Boston this weekend.

Boston’s Summer Arts Weekend, July 25-26

Summer Arts Weekend BostonMark your calendars because starting on Thursday, July 23rd is Boston’s third annual Summer Arts Walk.  Come down to Newbury Street from 5-8 PM and visit participating art galleries.  Each gallery will feature a generously donated piece of art and display other works by local artists; participating galleries.

This weekend (July 25-26), the Summer Arts Weekend also returns.  The Summer Arts Weekend includes many free events, including performances by R&B singer, Aaron Neville, Blue Man Group “Boston Drum Off” and much more.  All events take place in the Back Bay’s Copley Square, starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday and again at 12:30 PM on Sunday.  You can view this year’s calendar here.

Free movies at Prudential Center shows Frozen

Free Movies Boston, Magic 106.7 FMThe Magic 106.7 Family Film Festival started last week at the Shops at Prudential Center.  Tonight, that film series continues with Frozen. 

Note that this family-friendly event that includes children’s activities that start at 6pm. The movie will begin Saturday at sundown. (Rain date is Wednesday, July 22nd).  No plans tonight?  Head over to the Shops at Prudential Center and sing along.
