DotOUT Summer Tea Dance @dbar
Sunday from 4-8PM is the summer Tea Dance presented by DotOUT at dbar in Dorchester.
The summer Tea Dance is a guaranteed fun time. Here are a few photos from the 2011 Summer Tea Dance presented by DotOUT last year.
Hope to see you there. Be sure to stop by the DJ booth and say hello to Gay Jim from KISS 108. I know I’ll be requesting Cazwell’s Rice & Beans.
Restaurant review: dBar
Formerly an Irish-style pub,dBar can get rowdy later in the evening – especially on Tuesdays when they host “Show Tune Tuesdays” or on the weekends, so for that reason I suggest going on Sunday’s, Monday’s and Wednesday’s when its easy to get a table and you won’t be shouting over DJs or show tunes.
The menu, created by Executive Chef, Chris Coombs, is typically American but inspired by French cooking. Its approachable without being boring, meaning that both picky eaters and those looking for something different can sit at the same table and find something they’d like. When we sat down for dinner we started with lobster bisque for $8.00 and the beet trio salad with goat cheese croquette (mmm), candied hazelnuts, and croutons for $11.00.
For dinner we ordered two of the restaurant’s most popular plates, the crispy organic chicken breast served with mashed potato, steamed broccoli in a delicious oyster mushroom-madeira jus for $18.00 and the sirloin burger, frites and salad for $12.50. The chicken and burger were both cooked to perfection. The portions ran large, making us leave with a slight food coma.
dBar does Dorchester proud and is worth trying. In the summer, many of the vegetables and herbs on the plates served are grown fresh atop the roof of dBar. The restaurant is open 7-days a week and has a full bar. If you are interested in trying dBar you can call them at (617) 265-4490 or stop by for a visit at 1236 Dorchester Ave. You can find dBar online at, www.dbarboston.com.
dbar Snowball Beach Party Tea Dance
It was just a few months ago that I posted photos from dbar’s Harvest Tea Dance. Tomorrow, Sunday – February 26th, dbar will host their winter Tea Dance. Although temperatures are chilly in Boston this weekend, there will be no snowballs to worry about, and with a speedo contest encouraging people to arrive in beach attire, this could be an interesting way to spend your Sunday afternoon. Will you be going?
New restaurant to open in South End’s SoWa neighborhood
MCSlimJB a Boston-based restaurant critic, tweeted that the Union Park Neighborhood Association was contacted by Deuxave / dbar owner with plans to open a steakhouse in the old Penny Savings building on Washington Street.
Back in August I listed this as a rumor that had been buzzing through the neighborhood in my post Dishing some South End gossip. However, I thought Brian Piccini (owner of Deuxave and dbar) was unable to make this happen. There’s no word about what hurdles remain for this to happen or when the unnamed restaurant will open for business, but stay tuned.
Thanks to Adam and his hospitality blog for the tip.
dBar Harvest Tea Dance
As expected, the dbar Tea Dance on Sunday, November 13th attracted a large and friendly crowd. It was a gorgeous fall evening and many people preferred to cocktail in the open air of dBar’s patio, but it was a bit too chilly for me to spend much time there since I opted to only wear a t-shirt.
“Gay Jim” from KISS 108 FM helped keep everyone in good spirits with one dance song after another and the bar staff seemed to be pouring drinks at the speed of light limiting the amount of time you had to wait.
Cocktail Sunday
Sad Sunday has already arrived and don’t want to think about the inevitable Monday morning blues? There are two events today that can make you forget all about tomorrow (and by forget I mean black out).
The dbar Harvest Tea Dance (4Pm – 8PM) will gather an early crowd of mostly gay men looking for an excuse to get out, chat with friends and listen to KISS 108 disc jockey “Gay Jim” play a heavy rotation of dance music. There is no cover for the fall – sorry – “Harvest” party so bring your friends but arrive early since parking can be a royal pain in the you know what.
LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails) is hosting a cocktail party at the House of Blues from 5PM – 11PM. The event includes cocktails, comedy, Prince tribute band LoveSexy and a Left bank (Cambridge) – Right bank (Boston) bartender competition. Cost: $50
