Remember this Carly Rae Jepson 2012 hit? The catchy pop tune spawned a host of video covers. My favorite was this version by the Harvard University baseball team.
I’ll be the first to admit I love Beyonce, but her lyrics are ridiculous. Little BoBo (actress Nina Millin) on YouTube has created a series of posts called The Beyoncelogues where she offers dramatic readings of Beyonce’s redick lyrics. The result is hilarious. Enjoy.
Chelsea Handler’s popular show, Chelsea Lately, on E Television will end on Tuesday, August 26th. I’m not sure what is next for the author of Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea. Her show has given a number of comedians an excellent platform, and I really liked her format which is very different from other night time talk shows on television.
I have no idea who will follow Stephen Colbert after he replaces David Letterman on CBS, but I’d love to see her follow Stephen and replace the Craig Ferguson Late Show.
Back in March I shared this retro take on Beyonce’s Drunk In Love, performed by Cristina Gatti. Here is another in that same series of remaking modern hits with a retro sound. The Tee Tones remake Pitbull’s “Timber” by putting a 1950’s spin on the cover.
Kenneth Walsh, the man behind the uber popular gay blog, Kenneth in the 212, recently released his book Wasn’t Tomorrow Wonderful? a memoir. Gay men who grew up before the dawn of the Internet will likely find themselves relating to this memoir that is told through the lens of a young man who came of age in the 1980s and 1990s.
Here is an excerpt of text I pulled from the book’s Amazon.com page.
In the summer of ’77, while other boys in the Midwest were busy playing Little League and flocking to see Star Wars, young Kenny Walsh was obsessed with Chris Evert and Woody Allen movies — and daydreamed about moving to New York City. But when his family headed west from the suburbs of Detroit to Phoenix, it was the first in a series of events that set his Big Apple ambitions on the wrong course.
With Memorial Day Weekend now just weeks away, this maybe the must read book to add to your summer reading list.
Earlier this week Eater Boston said rumors were swirling that Top Chef might be filming upcoming Season 12 in Boston. Yesterday those rumors were confirmed. The cast and crew will film all over the city and at the coast, including sites like Fenway Park and Plimoth Plantation as possible destinations. The season will also involve some Boston personalities who are affiliated with the show. Past Boston-based “Top Chef” contestants include Sweet Cheeks boss Tiffani Faison , who was on the first season of the series, and restaurateur Michael Schlow , who was on “Top Chef Masters” were mentioned in the Boston Globe article.
I’ve never watched the show since cooking competitions stress me out. I’m more interested in the food than the intrigue or competition, but I think it will be cool to have them showcase Boston by filming here.
This morning I had a good laugh when I saw the current Rolling Stones magazine cover in a Boston.com article. It features a naked Julia Louis-Dreyfus with the US Constitution and John Hancock’s signature scrawled on her back. It is unclear to me if the historical error is intentional or a gaffe. The Boston.com makes it seem that it was (sadly) the former.
You can read more about this in today’s Boston.com.
How cool is this video? Scott Bradlee has created a vintage cover of Beyonce’s hit song, Drunk In Love with the help of Cristina Gatti who sings in front of a 5 piece band that replicates the big band sound that was so popular before rock & roll in the 1940s.
Take a listen and tell me what you think. I loved it.
Want to feel old? Thirty years ago today, Andrew Clark (Emilio Estevez), Brian Johnson (Anthony Michael Hall), John Bender (Judd Nelson), Claire Standish (Molly Ringwald), and Allison Reynolds (Ally Sheedy) were all supposedly serving a weekend detention at Sherman H.S.
The Breakfast Club was actually released in February 1985 so the 30th anniversary of the film’s release is still a year away but I couldn’t resist sharing when I saw this making the rounds on Twittah.

I previously wrote about how Neil Patrick Harris was named the Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2014 Man of the Year. Yesterday NPH came to Harvard to collect his award and as you can see he looked quite dapper.

However, as the ceremonies started, the ribbing and jesting began and of course, it wouldn’t be the Hasty Pudding if there wasn’t any cross-dressing and kissing. Do you think David Burtka was jealous; I doubt it. Here is a quick overview of all the fun in Cambridge courtesy of Reuters.
Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals has named Neil Patrick Harris as this year’s “Man of the Year”. He will be given his pudding pot following a parade through Harvard Square and roast scheduled for Friday, February 7th.
Neil Patrick Harris will join an esteemed list that includes men like Paul Newman, James Cagney, Robin Williams, Kevin Kline, Robert Downey Jr and many more. You can see the full list of award recipients from our nation’s oldest undergraduate drama troupe here.
HBO’s newest series,Looking, supposedly will share the unfiltered experiences of three close friends living in modern-day San Francisco. The trio’s stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy.
Looking premieres tonight at 10:30 p.m. on HBO. Will you be looking watching?
Much thanks to Brenton of Aussielicious for sharing this eerie rendition of Kylie Monogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head by Lee Glasson on The Voice UK blind auditions. I thought he was amazing. What do you think?
