Donna Summer outdoor roller disco returns in June

Flashback FridayMark your calendars because on Friday, June 19th City Hall Plaza will once again play host to a Donna Summer Memorial Roller Disco.

Friday, June 19th Boston to host Donna Summer Roller Disco

Similar to last year when more than 4,000 people came down to Government Center, the event will be free and open to the public, with skates for rent, food on hand and of course some excellent music courtesy of DJ Kon.

Check out these pictures from last summer’s inaugural Memorial Roller Disco to Boston native, Donna Summer. #HotStuff

Daniel Craig returns as James Bond in SPECTRE

SPECTREA new trailer for the next James Bond film, SPECTRE,  has just been released. The latest addition to the James Bond franchise sees Daniel Craig reprising his role as the infamous MI6 spy for a fourth time, following the worldwide success of 2012’s Skyfall, which I loved despite the fact that it killed off Judi Dench.

SPECTRE is scheduled to open in theaters on Friday, November 6, 2015.

Taye Diggs and I are Twitter buds

Taye Diggs TwitterI don’t pay that much attention to how many followers I have on Twitter, but last week I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw that Taye Diggs started following me. I still think that it might have been a mistake on his part – although we both do share a love for Broadway musicals.

I’ve been obsessing over Taye Diggs ever since I saw late 90s movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back.  In my opinion, this Hollywood / Broadway star has only become better looking and more interesting with age.

Chalk this post up to me bragging (and flirting just a bit in case Mr. Diggs ever sees this post). I know he doesn’t fancy men but that won’t stop me from fancying him.

You too can follow me on Twittah here:  @BosGuy.

Saturday night video: Bohemian Rapsody

These three ladies do an excellent job.  See if you can keep up with them.

Saturday night video: Repeat stuff

Kind of love this parody of pop singers like Justin Bieber and One Direction. Of course it doesn’t hurt that you get to watch Max Emerson perform this cover in an unbuttoned shirt with the very cute Tom Goss strumming his guitar.

Kylie Minogue Mighty Aphrodite tour

Kylie MinogueLast Saturday I came home after a fun night out but couldn’t sleep so I started watching a broadcast of the 2011 Kylie Minogue Mighty Aphrodite tour.  Kylie kicked off her US tour in Boston in late April 2011 and watching the broadcast brought back many happy memories and made me realize how much I would like to see her back here performing.

What was one of your favorite live performances of all time?

Saturday night video: SNL Serial Parody

OMG this is hilarious.  The SNL skit appeared during the holidays when I was out of the country so much thanks to my friend Tracey for telling me about it.   I was absolutely addicted to the Serial Podcast and this is brilliantly done.

Christina Aguilera “Wheel of Musical Impressions” on Jimmy Fallon

Last night season eight of The Voice premiered (does this show ever go off air?) and Christina Aguilera is back once again as a coach.  To promote the show she joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.  Jimmy asked her to play “Wheel of Musical Impressions” where she had to channel the likes of Cher, Brittany and Shakira.  She was flawless and perhaps at her best singing The Folger’s jingle as Cher, but even Brittany fans are likely to love her version of how Ms. Spears might sing “This Little Piggy”.  Say what you will but sitting down without any heads up she does a better live impersonation of Brittany Spears than Brittany could.

Saturday night video: I want it that way

Here is another video from Post Modern Jukebox.  This remake of the Backstreet Boys hit I Want It That Way, features Shoshana Bean and I have to admit, despite a slow start, I really love this version and I hope you do too.

Have a great Saturday night.

Tweet of the day: Cindy Crawford without Photoshop

Tweet of the Day Cindy CrawfordLast week this image of Cindy Crawford created quite a stir on Twitter.  I think Charlotte Wilder put it best when describing her reaction when she wrote, “Until last weekend, I thought of myself as the kind of woman who wasn’t affected by how the media portrays women. I thought I was too aware and too savvy to hold myself to standards of beauty that are unreal. Magazines Photoshop everybody and everything. Everyone knows that.

I’m not posting this image to comment on how Cindy Crawford looks.  I’m posting this picture because I think even jaded savvy consumers like you and me are deluded if we think we have a healthy understanding of what a gorgeous woman like Cindy Crawford looks like as she ages (quite gracefully I might add).

I don’t begrudge anyone who wants to Photoshop their photos or engage in any kind of nip and tuck to help hide their years, but I do think that we would all be better off if we kept this image firmly in mind.  Cindy Crawford is beautiful, but she isn’t 18 years old so let’s stop pretending that is an ideal one can maintain. Youth is precious because it is fleeting. If it was forever it wouldn’t be coveted.

Single Ladies choreography

beyonceIn an attempt to maintain my blog’s “wicked gay” rating, I thought it was time to post this Single Ladies choreography chart.  The timing with the pending Valentine’s Day weekend is purely coincidental.

Annual Bugs Bunny Festival

Cartoons, AnimationAlthough I’m sure this is really intended for kids, I think cartoon fans of all ages might find the 20th Annual Bugs Bunny Festival something fun to attend.

Starting later this month, for one week the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge will host their Annual Bugs Bunny Film Festival.

The festival features 3 different programs:

All Bugs Revue
Daffy Duck & Friends
Looney Tunes Review

When:  February 14 – 21 – multiple viewing times
Ticket Info:  Brattle Theatre

I first saw this advertisement during the SuperBowl and couldn’t believe how touched I was.  Do you still believe that sexism isn’t an issue and misogynistic attitudes are no longer pervasive in the US? Think again.

How might you have responded to the questions asked in this commercial?

I am the locker room guy from Jimmy Kimmel Live

Is there any doubt that Late Night TV is in the midst of a Renaissance? I love Kimmel’s fictitious beef with Damon that goes back to when his former girlfriend, Sarah Silverman shared this hilarious video, I’m F*cking Matt Damon.

I’ve not been following the details of ‘DeflateGate’, but this video from Jimmy Kimmel Live last night is hilarious.  Love all those local Boston actors.

Chris Pratt named Hasty Pudding Man of the Year

Hasty Pudding Man of the Year AwardFollowing last week’s news that local gal, Amy Poehler was named 2015 Woman of the Year award from Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals. Yesterday, her hunky co-star, actor Chris Pratt, was named as Hasty Pudding’s 2015 Man of the Year.

The Man of the Year festivities will take place on Friday, February 6, 2015 and include a celebratory roast at Farkas Hall, the Hasty Pudding’s historic home in the heart of Harvard Square since 1888. A press conference will be held at 8:30 p.m., following the roast. Afterward, the Pudding will stage the opening night performance of its 167th production, ¡Oops!… Madrid It Again!
