If you’ve never attended one of The Fellows socials, give it a try. I’ve attended a couple of their socials and the crowd is always friendly and welcomes even those in the 40+ crowd like yours truly.

Dance class doubleheader at South End Swet Studio

swet studio, twc, The Welcoming CommitteeThursday, December 17th, work on your dance moves in a judgment-free atmosphere.  Boston’s first alternative, LGBTQ-centric fitness facility teams up with The Welcoming Committee to offer an evening of dance workout fun.

Part I Fabulous Ballroom: The first lesson is full of energy as you learn the waltz, foxtrot, and swing dancing. Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner—the idea is to meet new friends, get fit, and have fun.

Part II Latin Mania: After a short break, the second lesson will begin; a mixture of techniques and rhythms. Learn Salsa and Bachata. Socialize and meet new people. Come with a partner or leave with one!

Classes run for 45 minutes each and start at 6:30 PM in the South End at Swet Studio located at 480 Tremont Street (between Appleton and Berkeley Streets).

The Welcoming CommitteeIn this season of giving you may want to consider giving back.  The Welcoming Committee is committed to helping our community through their TWC Gives Back programs that organizes ways for the LGBT community to volunteer.

One such opportunity takes place on Tuesday, December 15th with Cradles to Crayons at C2C’s Giving Factory warehouse in Brighton. TWC volunteers will roll up their sleeves and help provide local, low-income children with the essentials they need to thrive. During the 2-hour shift, you’ll sort and pack winter clothing and basic toiletries that’ll help get kids through the holidays.

If possible please bring one or more of the following unused items.

  • Hats and gloves for children age 8-12
  • Kids shampoo (e.g., L’Oreal kids 2-in-1)
  • Bar soap (e.g., Dove, Olay)
  • Kids toothpaste
  • Adult toothpaste (no whitening toothpaste)
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby lotion
  • Baby nail clippers

Please plan on arriving 10-15 minutes early.

Will & Grace Thanksgiving at Club Cafe tonight

Will and Grace and Thanksgiving at Club Cafe with The Welcoming CommitteeThe Welcoming Committee has teamed up with Club Cafe and will be binge-watching three episodes of Will & Grace (including one double-episode). In addition to the episodes, a $15 admission includes complimentary light bites.  All are welcome starting at 6PM; shows starts at 7PM in the back room at Club Cafe.

Fellows winter outing at Killington announced

TWC, The Welcoming CommitteeThe Fellows now have details of what looks like a fun trip to Killington, VT January 29-31.  The Fellows first Winter Outing includes lodging, entertainment and a host of optional activities all in one easy and pretty affordable package.

TWC takeover of the Donkey Show

TWC presents Fortune Feimster at the Wilbur on June 13

TWC Boston, LesbianThe Welcoming Committee has snagged Orchestra-level seats (front and center) at comedian Fortune Feimster’s show on Pride Saturday, June 13 at 7pm over at the Wilbur Theatre.  You may recognize her from her time on Chelsea Lately, (I miss that show) where she mercilessly mocked herself and others. Following the show, TWC will host an after-party at a nearby bar.

Guerrilla Queer Bar tonight at Prime Boston

The Welcoming Committee, TWCThe Welcoming Committee is now helping the LGBTQ community come together and celebrate the first Friday of each month through their Guerrilla Queer Bar (GQB) in eight cities around the country. For those unfamiliar with GQB, this monthly program from The Welcoming Committee takes over a traditionally “straight” bar, turning it into a LGBTQ space in eight cities including Boston.

Umbria Boston, Guerrilla Queer Bar, GQB Boston, The Welcoming Committee BostonThis month TWC’s GQB in Boston will take place at (Umbria) Prime located at 295 Franklin Street.  All the fun starts at 9PM – don’t show up too fashionably late otherwise you’ll have to wait in line to get inside.  GQB will also take place in: Atlanta, Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Get your tickets to the TWC takeover of Fenway Park on May 21st

Boston Red SoxOne of my favorite LGBT organizations, The Welcoming Committee, is planning a massive takeover of Fenway Park on Thursday, May 21st when the Red Sox play host for a night game with the Texas Rangers.

With more than a thousand bleacher seats reserved, join what could be TWC’s largest takeover in memory.  In true form, TWC, will host a pre-game “tailgate” by Who’s on First for those who are interested.  More details about the evening’s fun and how to purchase tickets online are available via the link included.

The Welcoming CommitteeYou may not believe it but summer is just a few months away and The Welcoming Committee (TWC for short) is accepting applications for the summer session of their volunteer Corps.  Applications for the May-August summer session, a nationwide volunteer program, will remain open through Sunday, April 5th.

If you are new to town or newly single and looking to make new friends / connections this might be a great opportunity for you to consider.

Join me at TWC’s Hasty Pudding take over

TWC, The Welcoming Committee, Oops!…Madrid It AgainLast month I wrote about the TWC take over of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals on Friday, February 20th.  If you haven’t any plans for Friday, join Sergio and me as we head to Harvard Square to watch this talented male troupe perform, ¡Oops!…Madrid It Again!.

This is the same production that Amy Poehler (Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2015 Woman of the year) and Chris Pratt (Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2015 Man of the year) watched after receiving their awards.

TWC Gives Back at Umbria Boston Feb-13

TWC Boston, The Welcoming Committee, LGBT, Gay, GQBBoston’s LGBT social group, The Welcoming Committee (TWC for short) is launching a year-long initiative called TWC Boston Gives Back to help area nonprofits by hosting events and volunteering activities and their first event is tomorrow, Friday, February 13th. 

TWC will takeover Umbria in downtown Boston and 100% of the proceeds raised will be donated to the GLBT Domestic Violence Project and the LGBT Asylum Support Task Force.  If you don’t have any plans or are looking for something to do, check out Umbria at 295 Franklin Street in downtown.

TWC takes over Hasty Pudding Theatricals on Feb 20

The Welcoming Committee, TWC, TheaterThe Welcoming Committee is returning to Harvard Square to take over one of America’s oldest theatrical traditions.  Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals is celebrating their 167th anniversary this year and just weeks after hosting Amy Poehler and Chris Pratt, Sergio and I will be joining TWC to see the Hasty Pudding Theatricals show, ¡Oops!…Madrid It Again!, on Friday, February 20th.

TWC take over: Men of the Strip

The Welcoming Committee, TWC, male strippersThe Welcoming Committee is encouraging you to embrace the Arts community in all its forms.   They are planning a take over of Men of the Strip, a sexy dance show that will be coming to Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.

While these shows tend to be overrun by middle aged suburban housewives and bachelorette parties, TWC has decided to give these dancers (and their fans) something to think about with their boldest takeover to date.
