Rob Reiner, River and a Movie, EF EducationWhat does Back to the Future, The Princess Bride and Batman have in common? They are all movies that you can watch outdoors for free in Boston this month.

Thrillist Boston has published their list of free outdoor movies in Boston and will continue to add to this list as new listings and shows are announced. Currently the month of July has 30 free movies published (and more will likely be added). So if you love being outside and enjoy movies this might be a great date night or fun night out with friends.  Note that the showings take place in a variety of spaces so double check the location and timing for each movie.

Similar to last year when more than 4,000 people came down to Government Center, the event will be free and open to the public, with skates for rent, food on hand and of course some excellent music courtesy of DJ Kon.  But beware that last year the lines to get roller skates wrapped around the entire Plaza so bring roller blades if you have them or plan to arrive early. Check out these photos from last summer’s Memorial Roller Disco to Boston native, Donna Summer. #HotStuffBosGuy, Boston Guy

The 32nd Annual MayFair
Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Boston has a long, proud history of churning out really excellent bands.  Some have gone on to enjoy significant commercial success and many others have gone on to have long, successful careers outside of the mainstream.  Part of the reason so many bands come to Boston is our city’s embrace of music in all its forms.  Next weekend is a good example of what I’m talking about.

Sunday, May 3rd is the 32nd Annual MayFair festival in Harvard Square.  This free, all day event includes an impressive line up of some of Boston’s favorite local acts including The Sheila Divine, Freezepop, Bent Shapes, M’Bolo, Air Traffic Controller, Hallelujah The Hills, Grey Season, the Luxury, Vundabar, Funeral Advantage, Parks, and the Novel Ideas.  All twelve bands will play on two different stages between 12PM and 6PM while various vendors and events take place in Harvard Square. The event is free and open to the public.
