Dick of the Week: Governor Rick Snyder (R-MI)
The Human Rights Campaign joined with a number of other organizations today condemning Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan for signing into law what they described as “a package of extreme anti-LGBT adoption bills into law.”
For those who think PRIDE marches are no longer necessary, Gov. Snyder (R-MI) reminds us why we need to keep marching.
Once again hiding behind that code language of “religious freedom” Governor Snyder enshrined special taxpayer-funded discrimination into Michigan law that allows discrimination against committed and loving LGBT couples from adopting children. Under the legislation, faith-based agencies that contract with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services can operate in accordance with their beliefs.
Let us be very clear the only reason one cites “religious freedom” is to codify bigotry. People who have claimed their religious freedom is being impinged have a dubious history; religious freedom has been cited for the need to maintain slavery, oppose a women’s right to vote, ending segregation, banning interracial marriages and now most recently providing services to the LGBT community.

2nd Annual Heels for Hope a success
Last night a couple hundred guys packed into Cathedral Station to help raise money for BAGLY – Boston Alliance for Gay & Lesbian Youth. No word yet on how much money was raised for this great charity but a lot of fun was had by everyone.
This was my first time wearing heels and I was doing my best to focus on not rolling my ankle since I had 4″ heels (I was so tall I felt like I was an NBA player).
While I had a lot of fun, after two and a half hours standing in heels, I had to leave to go home and soak my feet in the tub. After a nice soak I even asked Sergio to massage my feet. My god I was sore. Below are a few photos from the evening. Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to pose for me.

MA same sex marriage stats paint a positive picture
With the U.S. Supreme Court expected to rule on the future of same-sex marriage in the US in the coming weeks, The Boston Herald published an interesting article from the AP which suggested the justices should consider the MA experience where marriage equality first arrived in the US back in 2004.
Between 2004 and 2013 more than 25,o00 gay couples married in MA, according to a review of state records; accounting for approximately 7% of all marriages in the state. Marriage is more popular with lesbian couples (16,000 weddings) than gay couples (9,900 weddings). And despite predictions that “gay marriage” would destroy the institution of marriage, Massachusetts has maintained a divorce rate of 2.7%; one of the lowest rates of any state in the country.

SCRUFFtistics: Gay Pride Worldwide
SCRUFF recently released the results of an in-app survey that included more than 70,000 of their users. The informal survey inquired if they planned on attending any gay pride celebrations in their home city this year. Although Boston is often criticized about its Pride Week festivities, 60% of those who took the survey indicated they would be attending at least one official Pride event here.
You can see how survey respondents answered in the UK, South America and Asia by visiting SCRUFF’s blog post SCRUFFtistics: Gay Pride Worldwide.
Will you be attending any Boston Pride events this week or if Boston isn’t your home, will you be attending any local Pride events wherever you might live? Curious to hear from you and your reasons for participating or skipping local pride events this year.
Jennifer Hudson’s “I Still Love You”
I know this video is making the rounds on all the gay blogs but I can’t think of a better video to share on a Saturday evening. I’m sure I’ll be hearing this played quite a bit in Provincetown this summer.
