Spring 2016 LGBT fundraisers in Boston

The Boston area has a lot of LGBT fundraisers and events that are worth your attention and support, but it is hard to attend everything. Below I’ve compiled a list of events that will take place this winter and spring that you may want to consider attending or supporting in 2016.

Feel free to add any LGBT events that I missed in the comments section below.

Taste of the South EndEARLY MARCH: Taste of the South End will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The event draws 40+ restaurants and more than a few beers and wines.  This is a casual and fun weekday event that helps raise funds for the AIDS Action Committee.

Black TieMARCH 19: Fenway Men’s Event is one of the city’s largest LGBT fundraising events of the season and is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Fenway Health. It’s counterpart, The Women’s Dinner Party will take place just a few weeks later on April 9th.

Gay, Lesbian, MovieMARCH 31 – APRIL 10 Boston LGBT Film Festival will host their 32nd annual film festival and is the perfect event for all of you movie buffs. Confirmed venues for this year’s festival include The MFA Boston, The ICA Boston and The Paramount Theatre at Emerson College.

Spirit Magazine Networking NightAPRIL 13 Boston Spirit Magazine LGBT Executive Networking Night is not a fund raiser but is an opportunity for LGBT professionals to come together and network with others. The program is hosted each year by Boston Spirit Magazine and is usually hosted at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel.

Victory Programs, BosGuyAPRIL 24 DinnerFest will take place once again at the Red Dragon from 3-6 PM. This important fundraiser now managed by The Victory Programs is an important event to help continue their important work in our community.

theater offensiveAPRIL 28: climACTS! Underground is easily one of the most fun and unconventional fundraisers you will find in Boston. The funds raised support The Theater Offensive.

Have I overlooked an LGBT fundraising event? Please share in the comments section and have the charity email me the details at: bosguymail@gmail.com.

Last week I posted a video of Max Emerson – actor, writer, director and (my favorite) underwear model – doing an ab work out in the buff (watch it here).

You could say he was showing off his assets to raise money for a film called, Hooked, that focuses on LGBT homeless youth.   I’ve just made a personal donation of $50 to show my support for this project and I know it would mean the world to Max if you would help spread the word and provide a small donation too.

The IndieGoGo campaign has about one month left to raise money. You can learn more about Hooked, by visiting the project’s IndieGoGo campaign HERE.

GLAD’s summer party in Ptown is July 25th

The MacArthur FoundationGLAD’S 34th Annual Summer Party

The Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders is a local non profit that has been helping the LGBT community here and around the country since it was first formed in 1978. In recent years GLAD’s Civil Rights Project Director, Mary Bonauto, has received much attention as a Marriage Equality advocate with significant rulings in cases like Goodridge v. Department of Public Health which made Massachusetts the first state in which same-sex couples could marry in 2004 and more recently arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court in the Obergefell v. Hodges case on April 28, 2015. A that case will determine if state bans against same-sex marriage are constitutional and considered one of the most important civil rights cases to come before the U.S. Supreme Court in modern history.

Show your support for the work GLAD is doing on behalf of marriage equality and other important civil liberties by joining them at their 34th Annual Summer Party.
