Pilot program for marijuana cafes in Massachusetts

Yes on 4, legalize pot in MassachusettsProvincetown named as one of five potential communities to pilot cafes

Last week Boston.com shared a story on how Massachusetts state regulators are now starting to focus on licensing “consumption establishments” so they can open for business in the state. Referred to as cannabis cafes or marijuana lounges, social consumption establishments are just what they sound like. But of course since this is Massachusetts this will likely take time as regulators discuss and debate how to proceed before a cafe is licensed to open.

A pilot program is being evaluated and will be capped at a maximum of 12 communities, beginning with the five — Amherst, North Adams, Provincetown, Somerville, and Springfield — that participated in the working group, if they choose to opt in. At the moment, regulators are suggesting two types of licenses under the proposed pilot: Primary-use licenses, like cannabis cafes, and event host licenses for public events where marijuana could be consumed, like a concert or festival. At the moment indoor smoking would be prohibited due to the statewide ban on indoor smoking but the proposed pilot program would let event hosts could allow smoking in a designated outdoor area and vaping could be allowed indoors with proper ventilation.

Ptown’s Art House unveils new plans at public meeting on March 11

PtownEarlier this week the owners of the Provincetown Performing Arts Center (a.k.a. The Art House) shared rendering of a newly expanded building. On Monday, March 11, the owners plan to share the details of the redesign at the Board of Selectmen meeting. The new design will house 167-seats for shows, include new balcony-level seating and separate entrance, lobby and projection capabilities.

If approved, the new venue will open next year in the summer of 2020.

This week on Instagram: provincetowncom

provincetown, ptownEven though summer is still a few months away, signs of spring will be here soon and with January and February now in the past, the days are getting longer and (hopefully) warmer in the coming weeks.

One of Sergio and my favorite places to visit is Provincetown. In the coming weeks signs of life will return as stores and restaurants begin to open on the weekends. To help those of you who are suffering Ptown withdrawals, I’d suggest you consider following this Instagram account which takes one beautiful photo after another of this quaint, New England seaside fishing village and gay haven.

Call for Artists: Application for residency at Provincetown Dune Shacks

Each year The Provincetown Compact offers several artist and writers residencies in the historic Fowler and C-Scape (shown below) dune shacks located within Peaked Hill Bars National Register Historic District of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The shacks are primitive lacking electricity and indoor plumbing — and isolated, allowing for uninterrupted solitude and refuge.

The Compact funds, or partially subsidizes, residencies for three visual artists who are selected by jury and for two writers who are selected by lottery. The top recipient of the artist residency will also receive a $500 fellowship.

Saying goodbye to summer

Ptown, ProvincetownSummer always passes too quickly for my liking. Although fall doesn’t technically start for another few weeks, the season officially ends in the United States with Labor Day. I suppose the summer like temperatures we will experience through this week is a small consolation.

Sergio and I were able to get away for a few fun trips this summer including a fantastic stay in Montreal. We also flew to Brazil to celebrate Sergio’s mother’s 86th birthday, which was followed by a fun weekend with my family on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Finally, in August we were able to enjoy an extended stay in Provincetown during Carnival.

I hope you had a wonderful summer and made some great memories as well.
