New HBO series: Looking

gay televisionHBO’s newest series, Looking, may make Sunday nights a lot more interesting. Two weeks from tonight at 10:30 pm on January 19th Looking will premiere on HBO. According to the series website, Looking, offers the unfiltered experiences of three close friends living in modern-day San Francisco.  The trio’s stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy.

I find myself drawn to gay-themed movies and stories and hope that HBO’s track record for making entertaining hit series extends to Looking.  I’ll definitely be tuning in on the 19th.

No Pants Subway Ride next Sunday

No Pants Subway RideNext Sunday Boston will join cities from around the world for the annual No Pants Subway Ride on Sunday, January 12, 2014.

Sergio and I have been attending this event for the past few years and it is easily one of our favorites. If you’ve never been before, give it a try – you’d be surprised by how fun it is.  You can learn more about the event and the Boston Society of Shenanigans who organize the Boston event, by linking here and don’t forget to RSVP for the post-party.

Smoking

SmokingMany people make resolutions at the start of the new year. While I don’t know anyone who has decided to quit smoking, I thought I’d post this as inspiration to stick with it. This is the first Saturday of the year and I know that going out and drinking makes many crave a cigarette so I’m hoping this quick video might give you some added inspiration to refrain and stick with your resolution to quit.  Do you know a smoker? Merry Christmas: Riding Bus 19 to the Top

Bus 19 The way upI can’t think of a better story to share on Christmas Day.  This is a real life story that takes place here in Boston.  It is about overcoming adversity; it is about family bonds and how important they are; and most importantly, it is about believing in oneself and the conviction it takes to follow your dreams.

I encourage you to read the story one Tweet at a time here: Making Good From Almost Nothing.  The series of Tweets from December 16, 2013 are heartwarming.  Once you read @Billy_Baker’s Tweets check out the video from last year.   George and Johnny Huynh’s story is one that should be shared.  I hope you find it as touching and inspirational as I do.

Santa Speedo Run video makes the rounds

SSR Never underestimate the appeal of guys wearing speedos.  That is the lesson I learned this week when I saw my Santa Speedo Run video get picked up by a number of national blogs.  I’d like to say thank you to everyone else who was nice enough to share the video, which now has more than 35,000 views.

No Pants Subway Ride 2014The casual reader may wonder if I ever write about events that include wearing appropriate dress attire – which I can assure you I do.  However, in just a couple of weeks Boston will join cities from around the world for the annual No Pants Subway Ride on Sunday, January 12, 2014.

Toys for Joys party recap

T4JThis past Saturday night the annual Toys For Joys party was held in a new, larger venue.  More than 600 men and women braved a snowstorm to bring gifts that will be given to charities that help make Christmas a little extra special for children in the area.

Thank you to everyone who posed for a picture and to Piper Jo Nevins Photography for letting me swipe a few of their event photographs for the T4J video.

Boston Santa Speedo Run next Saturday

Santa Speedo Run 2010Mark your calendars and make sure you come down to Boylston Street to watch the annual Santa Speedo Run now in it’s 14th year. Seven hundred runners will participate in the fun fundraiser that supports the Play Ball Foundation.

Toys for Joys is next Saturday

Toys for JoysHave you registered to attend this year’s Toys for Joys?  What you waiting for? Although the venue has changed and there is a small registration fee, it is still the same party but just better because they organizers have changed the venue to accommodate a larger crowd so more friends can join you.
