BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your guess in the comment section.

This week’s riddle: How do you spell candy in 2 letters?

I’ll approve responses later in the day to allow people to respond without seeing any spoilers.

Boston Gay Basketball League’s new advert for the upcoming season

The Male Gazed by Manuel Betancourt

This month’s book from the Boston Gay Men’s Book Club is, The Male Gazed on Hunks, Heartthrobs, and What Pop Culture Taught Me About (Desiring) Men by Manuel Betancourt. The book addresses the concept of masculinity and how Manuel felt it eluded him growing up in Colombia. The New York Times described the book as “a smart, refreshing essay collection on the subject, and deals directly and honestly with the paradoxes surrounding the topic of men.” You can read the full book review by John Paul Brammer, here.

If you’d like to join the Boston Gay Men’s Book Club later this month they will meet to discuss the book at the Boston Public Library on Monday, October 30 at 6:15. Click on the link shared below to find out more.

The Boston Gay Men’s Book Club is a monthly book club that focuses on literature by and about gay men. I recently mentioned the group in my September post, Making friends in Boston LGBTQ social groups, and I wanted to give them another shout-out for anyone who may be interested in participating in this group’s monthly meet-ups.

Temptation Tuesday

This Thursday marks the start of the Boston Ballet 2023 / 2024 season. The ballet isn’t for everyone, but if you find the male form in motion a beautiful thing to watch, ballet just might be for you. Above I have featured photos from the Boston Ballet Instagram account.

The photos are of Angel Garcia Molinero a soloist who joined the Boston Ballet in 2021; John Lam a principal dancer with the Boston Ballet for 20 seasons; and Paulo Arrais a former principal dancer with the Boston Ballet. If you’d like to get tickets to an upcoming ballet this season visit bostonballet.org.

Trick or Treat: Haunted Houses and what’s going on up in Salem

What’s Happening in Salem, Mass

Few places embrace Halloween like Salem. Be forewarned, if you visit Salem in October you should expect massive crowds. If you’re planning a visit, I strongly recommend taking the MBTA commuter rail. The Salem stop is on the Newburyport / Rockport Line. The line’s schedule is here.

Voodoo and Vampires & Ghosts Walking Tour
Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery: A Horror Museum
Chambers of Terror
HYSTERIA: Haunts & Horrors
“Festival of the Dead” Psychic Fair and Witches Market
Salem Witch Trial Museum
Salem Ghost Tour

Note that the annual Haunted Happenings Grand Parade will be on Thursday, October 5th.
