What to do this week: August 20 – 26

Miss Coco Peru is back in the area, performing at the Pilgrim House in Provincetown through Aug-30. However, no need to travel for fun, later tonight head over to the Liberty Hotel bar Alibi for Opus Affair Monthly Social. Later this week on Thursday BostInno once again hosts their annual summer party BostonFest at the Lawn on D.

This weekend there are several parties, events and programs I’d like to note starting with the 99th Annual Saint Anthony’s Feast Weekend, which technically starts on Thursday; on Saturday you can catch some great local, live music at Boston Jazz Fest.

If you want to go dancing there are no shortage of parties and clubs, but I’d like to give a shout out to Drag Race Extravaganza! on Friday and the monthly queer bash in Allston, DONT ASK DONT TELL, on Saturday. Finally close your weekend with the annual Summer Sports Tea Dance on Sunday.

Droning Ptown Carnival 2018 video

For those of you who missed Carnival or for those of you who were there and wishing the fun week was not over, here is a beautiful video courtesy of David Cox who’s videos never disappoint.

Next year’s 41st Provincetown Carnival will start on August 15 and conclude on August 25th with the parade on Thursday, August 22, 2019. The theme will be Enchanted Forest.

Saturday morning coffee

The creator of Adam & Andy posted a series of comic strips this week focused on Dillon – a young guy with a somewhat troubled past who recently has found solace at Adam & Andy’s and who also recently started dating their nephew.

Provincetown’s Carnival celebrations

PtownToday is the last full day of 2018 Carnival. Although the weather started stormy it corrected itself and each day was a little more beautiful. For those leaving on the Saturday morning ferries, have an amazing time tonight with your friends.

Below are photos taken during Ptown’s annual Carnival Parade
Much thanks to my friend, Kyle Szary, who does a great job photographing the parade and the masses strolling up and down Commercial Street.

Next year’s 41st Provincetown Carnival will start on August 15 and conclude on August 25th with the parade on Thursday, August 22, 2019, and the theme will be Enchanted Forest so I fully expect to see all sorts of frisky woodland creatures and more than a few unicorns.

Furry Friday

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:
I can be crushed to pieces but only if I am given away first, I can be clogged and attacked but that’s usually my own doing. No matter how many problems I have, you wouldn’t dare let me go. What am I?

Like riddles? Check out past week’s brain teasers.

Gay for Good teams up with Mass Bears and Cubs

gay bostonMass Bears and Cubs is Teaming with G4G Boston and Boston Area Gleaners to Harvest Surplus Farm Crops for Those in Need.

WHAT: G4G Boston + Boston Area Gleaners + Mass Bears and Cubs
WHEN: Saturday, September 22, 8 AM – 1:30 PM, weather permitting
WHERE: A local farm, approximately 1 hour from Waltham, MA

Have you ever been gleaning? Gleaning is harvesting high-quality fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste on local farms. The fresh produce is then distributed to families struggling to access nutritious food. Harvesting is unpredictable and depends on the weather and crop readiness.

Anyone who is interested is encouraged to sign up for this project now, so G4G can begin organizing carpools, etc. More details, such as the crops that will be gleaned and the specific location of the farm, will be available soon. Interested in learning more or volunteering?  Visit the G4G Event page.

Paul SabalaI wouldn’t quite call myself an avid reader, but it is one of my favorite pastimes and something I do most nights before going to bed so this photo of the handsome actor Paul Sabala (a.k.a. the_thirsty_reader) seemed like an appropriate photo to share. It doesn’t hurt that Paul looks so good sitting in his bed with a book. Another upside to following Paul is that you can get some great book recommendations so consider following this furry bookworm.
