Paige Turner: Tucking Myself In comes to Club Cafe

Paige Turner returns to Club Cafe with a new show for the third time in a year. Last February Sergio and I saw her show My Funny Valentine. Paige puts on an excellent show and is worth every penny IMO. This show, Tucking Myself In! features ridiculous parodies and songs that Paige sings live from HAIRSPRAY, TAYLOR SWIFT, MUPPETS, CARLY RAE JEPSEN.

Make plans with friends or for a fun date night and get your tickets before she sells out (because she ALWAYS sells out). Trust me when I tell you that by the time her show comes to Boston in late February you’re going to need / want a fun night out. Tickets start at $30 for her two shows on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25.

Click on the links below to get your tickets before they have sold out.

2023 Gay ski weeks

Winter rendezvous

Each January I write about the various ski weeks and weekends that are organized here in New England and North America for those of you who love to take ski vacations. Below I’ve included a handful of such gay ski celebrations.

If you enjoy skiing and live in the Boston area, I’d also like to use this opportunity to give a shout out to OutRyders – New England’s largest gay ski club.

Aspen Gay Ski Week: January 15 – 21, 2023
This year AGSW celebrates its 46th year. This week long celebration is the biggest and longest running gay ski weekend. It has grown significantly over the years and it includes a ton of programming on and off the slopes.

Winter Rendezvous at Stowe, VT: January 18 – 22, 2023
This is New England’s largest (and longest running) gay ski week. Although you needn’t be a member to participate, Boston’s gay ski club, OutRyders, helps their members organize logistics if you’re interested in this event.

Whistler Pride & Ski Festival: January 22 – 29, 2023
This annual tradition which started in 1992 celebrates its 30th anniversary and will offer plenty to do. If you’re coming from the US you’ll be able to enjoy a nice price break with the favorable exchange rate.

Elevation Utah Gay Ski Week at Park City: February 22 – 26, 2023
While Utah isn’t exactly known as the most gay friendly place in America, this event continues to grow and gain popularity.

Elevation Mammoth Gay Ski Week: March 15 – 19, 2023
The Elevation Ski Week brand started here at Mammoth Mountain and attracts mostly a west coast crowd.

If there is a gay ski week or weekend celebration I’ve overlooked that you would like to share, please leave the name, date and web link in the comments section so people can learn more.

Caption this photo

Please share a caption of your own for this week’s photograph. Hopefully the caption I’ve shared below will inspire you to leave a funny caption in the comment section. If you don’t see it immediately, don’t worry, I’ll approve it for readers to enjoy.

Patty-cake, Patty-cake, Bakers Man, Bake me a cake as fast as you can.

It’s confirmed: Cathedral Station will be closing but when either nobody knows or is willing to say

Tonight’s East Berkeley Neighborhood Association (EBNA) monthly meeting gathered a large crowd. Residents had joined to learn more about the proposed cannabis shop at 1220 Washington Street. Most who were able to join (only 100 were able to join due to Zoom license restrictions) cited concerns other neighborhoods have voiced when cannabis shops have been proposed (traffic, proximity to children, this business won’t add to or enhance the n’hood, etc…) However most were silent on what losing another LGBTQ space means for our community so I asked the lawyer representing the cannabis owners when Cathedral Station will be closing and how we got to this point?

Arthur Leon, who is Cathedral Station’s landlord, was also on the Zoom Meeting and he shared that two years ago the owners declined to sign a new lease. They cited a desire to retire and relocate to Florida. Since that time the establishment has been operating without a lease, and it is that decision that opened the door for new businesses to come and rent the space. Leon did not answer when the owners plan to retire (it’s not clear that he knows) but one thing is for certain – despite comments from the staff, Cathedral Station will be closing.

The images below were shared by Adenike “Nike” John and Frederick “Fred” McCarthy at the EBNA Zoom Meeting – the two individuals behind “The Boston Garden Dispensary” (the dispensary name if approved). The first image confirms the location and the second image is a mock-up of the floorplan for the dispensary.

If you’d like to learn more about the owners and their proposal or hear what concerns were raised by attendees, the EBNA did record the meeting and you can contact them to get the recording on their website at, ebnaboston.org.
