The colors of Christmas: Silver and Gold

handsome, hunk, shirtless Did yesterday’s post, The colors of Christmas: Red and Green not quite get you into the Christmas spirit? Maybe you are looking for a more classic holiday combination like silver and gold. Hopefully this will spread some holiday cheer and help you look forward to the Christmas holiday. Now go and stream Michael Bublé’s Christmas album or replay his television special from last week.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

Holiday “Tabata” challenge:  It is the time of year when we start to over indulge on a regular basis with holiday parties and feasts week after week.  Try this workout before your next big holiday dinner.  This will ensure that whatever you are eating (hopefully it is healthy) is actually being used to repair and make your body strong- not being stored as fat.

Here is your pre-holiday feast workout challenge!  It is quick and can even be done from home for those of you who may be traveling – so no excuses.Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

20 consecutive air squats then rest for 10 seconds.  Repeat for 8 sets / rounds.  It may not sound like much but unless you are a marathon runner this will not only make you tired but it will also make your body use the carbohydrates that you might be consuming with your friends or family later that day.

Male Hooters called Pythons

Male HootersEarlier this month @markwoodall22 posted this Tweet, and I couldn’t help but laugh.  I’d LOVE to see this business plan pitched on the TV show Shark Tank.  I can hear wives from all over the US saying to their husbands, “Honestly, the food is really good. The $15 burger is totally worth the money.

South End restaurant update: Elephant Walk open

South End Restaurant newsDespite the fact that I’m currently in Brazil, friendly tips from readers continue to help me keep you posted about life in the South End.  Just as I was the first to share with you news about BoMA’s closing earlier this year, I’m happy to  be the first to let you know the Elephant Walk South End quietly opened their doors for business this past Sunday evening.  News of their opening came to me from two readers, Dave & Owings, who happened to be walking by the restaurant Sunday evening.

While the restaurant has not noted the opening on their website or facebook, and they are not taking reservations on Opentable.com yet, look for these updates in the days that follow.  I will be in Brazil through the holidays so at this point I have no further details to offer, but if you do check out Elephant Walk let me know your thoughts about the décor, menu and food.

Congratulations to the owners of Elephant Walk.  I want to welcome them to the neighborhood and wish them much success.

Boston firms well represented in Glassdoor’s annual Best Places to Work

Best places to work, glassdoor, glass doorAre you contemplating a job change in the new year? You may want to check out Glassdoor’s annual list of Best Places to Work for 2015.  While Google took the top prize for the first time this year, six Boston-based firms were recognized making it the second most represented metropolitan area on the list – not bad for such a small city if you think about it.

In addition to Bain & Company (No. 2), the other Boston area companies on Glassdoor’s list are Boston Consulting Group (No. 5), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (No. 12), MathWorks (No. 19), Massachusetts General Hospital (No. 28), and Bose (No. 46).  In addition to its “Best Places to Work” list, Glassdoor also released its annual report of the “50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For.” A total of four Boston-area companies are represented on this list, including Hubspot (No. 15), Hill Holiday (No. 33), VMTurbo (No. 40), and Analysis Group (No. 41).

Daddyhunt launches new mobile app

Not sure if you happened to see this video on YouTube, but Daddyhunt has a new app for your phone.  I’m not sure at what point these apps all become more or less filled with the same guys, but I do think the clip is funny.

My only suggestion to those of you who may be tempted to download this or turn on other similar apps when you’re out is to try making eye contact with someone and saying, “Hello”.  It is a tried and true tradition that just might surprise you if you can muster the confidence and give it a try.
