For many Americans this Monday isn’t quite so blue. I hope you can spend your Monday morning relaxing and enjoying your day rather than rushing around trying to get to work.
The AIDS crisis had become a lightening rod issue for the Gay community by the mid-80s; just as I was coming to grips with my own sexuality. The response from the Reagan Administration, the community I lived and popular culture probably did more to shape my attitudes of social justice, the role of government and community than any other single event in my life. It also started what would be an intensely personal and difficult internal debate about religion that I would fixate on for another 10-12 years. I’ll miss the premiere tonight but plan on watching the HBO production.
About The Normal Heart: Originally written as a play by Larry Kramer, The Normal Heart focuses on the rise of the HIV–AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984, as seen through the eyes of writer/activist Ned Weeks, the gay Jewish-American founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group.
Are you planning a trip to Provincetown this summer and do you love Broadway musicals? You may want to mark your calendars and call while tickets remain to this Broadway Series that includes names like Liza Minnelli (sorry that show has sold out), Carol Channing, Linda Eder as well as Andrea McArdle, Donna McKechnie and Faith Prince.
Check out The Crown & Anchor’s 2014 Summer line up and purchase your tickets to one of these amazing shows HERE.
Do you remember this 2010 YouTube video of a 15 year old who joined Michael Buble on stage to sing “Feeling Good”? I loved it then and I still love it today.
Madonna – the mother of reinvention – is driving fans crazy with rumors and innuendo. At least that is what Billboard Magazine seems to be hinting at with their riddle recently posted on their website – here.
Billboard will reveal who the artist is behind the 50-second snippet (listen to at the above link). Based on their not so subtle hints is there really any doubt? Rumors also suggest a May 26th Memorial Day surprise launch on iTunes. Check back and you can thank me latah.
The last Monday in May is Memorial Day in the United States. The holiday is meant to remember those who died while serving in the US Armed Forces, but for many the holiday will be spent by the beach or with friends and family since it officially kicks off the summer season.
If you are lucky enough to have Memorial Day as a holiday, I hope you can enjoy the time off and have a fantastic weekend. Blogging will be a bit lighter this weekend than normal.

Recently I was contacted and asked to help promote the AIDS Walk & Run Boston. I worked for The AIDS Action Committee for three years from 2001-2004 so I was flattered and only too happy to help – Sergio and I have walked in nearly every AIDS Walk since my time at the AAC.
I’d encourage you to check out the sweet pledge page that the AAC has created for me, but what I’d really like to ask is if you would consider coming to the AIDS Walk. Make a modest donation to yourself and come down to do the walk. If you have any questions about The Walk, feel free to reach out to me. I’ll be talking about this event over the next week+ to try and raise awareness and encourage people to participate.
Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, feel free to get help or share it with a friend or colleague to see if you can figure it out together.
I’ll confirm answers later in the day so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance.
This weeks riddle:
What English word has three consecutive double letters?
Periodically I like to remind people that Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) is open and free to the public each Thursday from 5 – 9 pm. If you don’t have plans this evening perhaps you should check out this fantastic local museum.
Located in the Seaport district, you can easily head out to a restaurant or bar if you’d like to extend your evening. Let me know if you need any recommendations.
