Scruffy Sunday

The super handsome Australian model, Ben Miller, likes to sleep au natural. Hope he has someone to cuddle with at night to stay warm.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your guess in the comment section.

This week’s riddle:

With pointed fangs, I sit and wait – With piercing force, I dole out fate.
Over bloodless victims I proclaim my might – I can eternally join with a single bite.
What am I?

I’ll approve responses later in the day to allow people to respond without seeing any spoilers.

Cathedral Station set to become marijuana dispensary

Contrary to rumors that suggest otherwise, The East Berkeley Neighborhood Association (EBNA) emailed members the following earlier this evening.

Zoning Board of Appeal – Tues, October 31

The proposed cannabis dispensary at the current Cathedral Station location was approved by the Boston Cannabis Board and will go before the city’s Zoning Board of Appeal next week, Tues, October 31. This proposal has been on the agenda for the Board of Appeal several times this past year, only to be removed/postponed. It is now on the agenda for the Board’s meeting next week.

Please also note – Despite rumors over the past few weeks, the proponent has not withdrawn their application, but is proceeding with the process.

South End Japanese restaurant set to close

The popular Japanese neighborhood restaurant and wine shop, Seiyo, will permanently close on October 31st after 19 years in business in the South End.

Located at 1721 Washington Street, near the corner of Washington and Mass Ave, this block has seen several restaurants close over the past couple of years, including Teranga and Bar Lyon. No doubt the current challenges associated with Boston’s Methadone Mile, which is relatively nearby, and urban blight from the defunct Alexandria Hotel only make news of their closure more upsetting. Neighbors will not only miss the food and wine shop but also the foot traffic Seiyo brought throughout the evening.

Steve Yung, the owner and manager had a wonderful streak and I’d like to wish him much luck with whatever he chooses to do next. The neighborhood will miss Seiyo.

More Bostonians are cycling

Earlier this week, Axios Boston shared an interesting story about a nationwide trend that is seeing more people ditch their cars and use their bikes to get around in major metro areas. Those of us who live in Boston have noticed the city’s commitment to enhancing bike safety by creating more bike lanes.

In response to this trend, Boston plans to add 9.4 miles of new bike lanes around the city. In my neighborhood, The South End, construction has been ongoing, converting Tremont Street from two lanes to one in each direction to make protected bike lanes. My assumption is this will push more car traffic onto Washington Street which is better equipped to handle the additional cars.

Urban bike-sharing programs like Boston’s Bluebikes and the growing unreliability of the city’s transportation system, MBTA are also driving many to choose cycling according to the Axios article. Regardless of the reasoning, it is a trend I like to see and hope continues to grow in popularity.

Do you use either a bike-sharing program like Boston’s Bluebikes or your own bicycle to get around town?
