If you’re like me, you’re not quite disciplined enough to stick to a home work out routine so it is with a bit of cheek that I am sharing this funny video from Nathan a.k.a. “Glow Disco Fitness” home workout routine straight out of the 1980s.
Perhaps this will inspire you to workout at home or if you are like me, maybe pour yourself a drink and watch Nathan in his crop top and short shorts.
Arthur Laurents (July 14, 1917 – May 5, 2011) shown above on the right was an American playwright, stage director and screenwriter best known for his work on Broadway, including – West Side Story, Gypsy, and La Cage Aux Folles. Tom Hatcher (August 24, 1929 – October 26, 2006) shown on the left was an aspiring actor whom Gore Vidal suggested Arthur Laurents seek out at the Beverly Hills men’s clothing store Hatcher was managing at the time. The couple remained together for 52 years until Hatcher’s death on October 26, 2006.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
Thursday April 2nd the U.S. government (sort of) eased restrictions that previously forbid gay men and several other groups from making blood donations. The FDA’s policy change is not absolute, meaning the guidance for male donors who would have been deferred for having sex with another man has changed the recommended deferral period from 12 months to 3 months. For sexually active gay men, which describes every gay man I know – this change although welcome still falls short. You can read the details about the new policy which aims to allow tens of thousands more Americans to give blood here.
The change in policy is due to canceled blood drives, that have decimated donations to the American Red Cross and other nonprofits that provide most of the blood supply in the country.
For those of you who are not sexually active gay men, consider contacting your local American Red Cross. To learn more and or to schedule a blood donation at Boston’s American Red Cross donation center call 1-800-RED CROSS or go online to schedule a time to donate, here.
Sergio and I had the chance to spend several nights this past December at Undarius Hotel in Uruguay. The 10-room hotel, which is owned and run by Mario (below in the jacuzzi) and Fran, is for men only and about a 5 minute walk to a gorgeous gay beach about 15 minutes outside of Punta del Este. I wrote a bit about our time in Uruguay and Undarius this past January, here.
The hotel’s account features photos of the property, some of the delicious food that they cook for guests and parties they host onsite. If you are contemplating a visit to South America, I would recommend considering this destination which is a 75-minute drive from the Montevideo International airport. Feel free to shoot me an email or leave a comment if you have any questions.

Michael Lebrecque a.k.a. the mastermind behind Boston’s successful “Heels for Hope” has come up with a creative pop up fundraiser to facilitate social interaction and to help spread some love and support for BAGLY, an organization that has been helping LGBTQIA youth for 40 years.
MAKE A DONATION TO BAGLY TODAY
Heels at Home Challenge:
1.) Take a picture of you at home in your Heels an post on social media
2.) Be sure to tag your friends and challenge them to do the same
Make a micro-donation of $5, $10, $15 to BAGLY if you can. The isolating feeling you may be feeling due to the state’s shelter in place order is how many LGBTQIA youth feel everyday if it weren’t for BAGLY’s services.
Earlier today Boston Pride announced that the 50th annual Boston Pride celebration will be postponed to Saturday, June 12, 2021. For those of you who already registered for the 2020 Festival, Boston Pride organizers have shared the following options listed below.
+ You may transfer your 2020 registration fee to the 2021 festival. Boston Pride will communicate with you about the new registration process for the 2021 festival that opens on November 15, 2020 and we will apply your payment towards that registration.
+ You may have the fee refunded (minus the processing fee if payment was made with a credit card) and the registration canceled. If you paid by credit we will make the refund to the card on file unless you tell us otherwise. If you paid by check, please tell us who to make the check to and who to send it to.
+ You may convert all or part of your registration fee into a tax-deductible charitable donation to Boston Pride, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

This week’s photo is from the fun to follow IG account, @kiltedbros. Definitely an eye-catching pose as he grips his sporran and smirks for the camera.
Over the past few weeks, in lieu of my Monday “What’s happening this week” post I’ve tried humor by sharing instructions on how to wash your hands; a Netflix & Chill post sharing new movies coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu in April; creative musical covers like My Corona.
This week I’m going to suggest tapping into some of the rich cultural institutions in Boston. If you like their virtual tours / exhibits perhaps it will inspire you to also check out other worthy museums here in the US and beyond.
Boston Public Library
With all the clubs and concert halls closed, musicians and some of the major venues have gotten creative. All of these resources are currently free, though some welcome donations to keep them going while the stages remain dark. The collection includes: The Montreux Jazz Festival, Consequence of Sound, Club Passim, The Boston Symphony Orchestra and NPR has created a list of live virtual concerts that is updated daily – just to give you an idea of your options.
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Isabella Stewart Gardner: An unconventional life shares the extraordinary story of this influential woman and patron of the arts in words and photos. If you like how the museum shares this story, be sure to also check out the Building of Isabella’s Museum as well as The Theft, which attempts to tell what happened at the Gardner Museum on March 18,1990 when 13 works of art were stolen in the single largest property theft in the world.
Museum of Fine Arts Boston virtual exhibits including
Writing the Future: Basquiat and the Hip-Hop Generation The post-graffiti moment in 1980s New York City marked the transition of street art from city walls and subway trains onto canvas and into the art world. From jazz, punk, and rap to funk, pop, and beyond, this playlist—created by “Writing the Future” co-curator Greg Tate—features music that inspired and came out of New York’s post-graffiti era.
Fashion Photography at the MFA The MFA made a serious effort to add to its fashion photography holdings. The MFA has been able to acquire a major archive of Herb Ritts, as well as important works by Baron De Meyer, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Deborah Turbeville, and others. This selection represents some of the highlights.
