Swimsuit preferences
Summer in New England means long sunny and humid days, which is why Boston can feel all but abandoned as residents flee to the islands, Cape Cod, Newport and the coast of Maine. What all of these destinations share are great beaches which means many of you are probably shopping for a bathing suit.
I thought I’d share my two cents on different bathing suit styles and include links to some brands you may want to check out.
Swim Trunks or Shorts (not to be confused with the much longer inseam of the surf-inspired Board Shorts) is not that popular with most of my friends but is a cut I feel comfortable wearing. The cut can range anywhere from the mid thigh to just above the knee. I like the versatility of these cuts, and how forgiving they can be if your stomach happens to be more curved than flat.
Square Cut Trunks are also another personal favorite cut which I think is flattering for most body types. I think these are also great because your tan line won’t be seen when you walk around town wearing shorts.
Briefs a.k.a. Speedos are the skimpiest of cuts and very popular, although I have never been comfortable wearing this cut unless swimming competitively. Having said that, I am a big fan of other people wearing this cut.
Shopping for a bathing suit? Check out these brands which aggressively market themselves to the gay community.

Vintage gay
It is Boston Pride Week so I thought it appropriate to share this photo which was sent to me earlier this spring, depicting people marching in 1970 at one of Boston’s first pride parades. Following the Stonewall riots in NYC in the summer of 1969, the gay community in large cities around the US came together to flex their political muscle and make their voices heard.
These men and women paved the way for people like you and me and we are all in their debt. These are the people who I dedicate this weekly post. Their determination to live an authentic life inspires me and I hope they inspire you.

This week on Instagram: boston.pride
It is Pride Week here in Boston so I thought I’d give the official Boston Pride Instagram handle a shout out and suggest you check it out. You’ll see plenty of photos from Pride this week, but if you look further back you’ll also see all the events and planning that takes place through out the year.
I’ve often been critical of Boston Pride (and I know I’m not alone here), but I have to also give this small group a lot of credit for navigating the bureaucracy associated with City Hall and doing their best each year to deliver a safe week of events and programming. I’d encourage anyone interested to get involved – I think fresh blood, new ideas and a willingness to help would greatly serve this group of dedicated volunteers.

Bonjour Montréal
Sergio and I have booked a trip to Montreal that will coincide with Montreal Jazzfest 2018, which takes place next month. We’ve both been to Montreal before but have not visited the city in about 10 years so I’m looking for suggestions on places to go, sites to see and / or favorite restaurants. I’ll be doing a bit of research on my own, but I’ve come to rely on readers’ suggestions.
I’d love to hear from you about:
– Sites we should definitely visit
– Neighborhoods of interest
– Restaurant and dining suggestions
Feel free to leave suggestions / tips as comments on this blog post or you can reach out to me directly at bosguymail@gmail.com.
