BosGuy brain teaser

visual riddleEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

Can you solve the picture riddle? The answer is an accurate description of me.

Are you out in your place of work

National Coming Out DayFormer Apprentice reality television personality, Sanjay Sood-Smith, shared an interesting opinion in Attitude Magazine.  Sanjay discusses in his opinion piece why being out at work can transform your life and career (and has for him).

I first came out at work in the late 1990s shortly before I met Sergio and it is hard for me to imagine what my career and life (which at times have been incredibly entwined) would be like if I was unable or fearful of being out at work.

I realize that the ability to feel comfortable being out in your workplace and not having to worry about reprisals or being held back from promotion can depend on where you live and perhaps the kind of work you do, but that isn’t always the case. I know a few people in my office who have made a conscious decision to remain in the closet. Are you out at work? Do you also know people in your place of work who have decided to remain in the closet?

I want to dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Don’t believe me read up on Rock Hudson and his life (shown above).  Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Word of the day: Relationship

humor, funny

I like to think of my blog as an important, educational site that can help you expand your vocabulary.  Today’s vocabulary word is Relationship.

Relationship (rəˈlāSH(ə)nˌSHip/noun)
Definition: the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.
Example: Mary was not interested in having a relationship with Michael.

Two large residential projects given green light

New Development: South Bay Town Center, 1,000,000 Sq Ft in Dorchester

New Development: South Bay Town Center, 1,000,000 Sq Ft in Dorchester

Two large real estate developments in neighborhoods near the South End were given the green light last week by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

The first development, South Bay Town Center, aims to give the South Bay Shopping Center a more residential feel. The project reminds me of the Avalon At Assembly Row development in Somerville. South Bay Shopping Center will include five 6-story buildings that will include one million square feet with 475 units of housing (62 reserved for affordable units), a 130-room hotel, 125,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a cinema and two parking garages for approximately 1,100 vehicles. Work on the large project will take place in three phases and is expected to be completed by mid 2018.

New Seaport Residential Development

New Seaport Residential Development

One of the largest developments to date in the Seaport was also approved last week. The newly approved project in Seaport Square will have 735 condos and apartments over 3.5 acres, plus 125,000 square feet of retail and 300,000 square feet of underground parking. Current plans show one tower with 275 condos, another with 180 condos, and a third with 280 apartments (or condos, depending on the market).

The project proposal also includes a pedestrian mall called Atrium Lane and a central plaza called Harbor Square. I’m curious to see how this project takes shape and if any affordable units will be included in this (my least favorite) downtown neighborhood in Boston.

The Boston Pride theme of Solidarity Through Pride served as the inspiration for the artists to create their work and the South End, Alternative Art Space Gallery will showcase these works from local LGBT artists (many of whom have never shown their work before).
