Boston’s Wicked Queer Film Festival

Wicked Queer Boston LGBT Film Festival

The 32nd Boston LGBT Film Festival runs March 31st – April 10th

Better known as The Boston LGBT Film Festival, this year the organization updated their name in time for the 32nd annual film festival which opens later this week and runs through Sunday, April 10th.

Do you like independent films? Do you like queer cinema? Come out and show your support and purchase tickets to a few films before they sell out.  A couple of films that caught my eye include: That’s Not Us (Friday, April 1), Paris 05:59 Theo and Hugo (Saturday, April 2), Sex Work: A program of shorts (Friday, April 8) and Kiss Me, Kill Me (Saturday, April 9).

Check out the full listing of movies and events that will take place around the city and show your support for Boston’s Wicked Queer Film Festival.

Astrological sign sculptures coming to Greenway

Ai Weiwei, Circle of Animals/Zodiac

Ai Weiwei with his dog head, part of the exhibition Circle of Animals/Zodiac

In April, Chinese contemporary artist, Ai Weiwei’s 12 mounted bronze statues entitled, “Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads” will grace part of Boston’s Greenway.  The 10′ high sculptures have already appeared in cities around the world including, London, Los Angeles, Taipei, and Paris.

These look a tad frightening to me and I’m sure they will be the subject of a lot of discussion once they are on display.

If you happen to celebrate it

Emma’s Pizza to open new location in South End

Emma's Pizza, Mangia PizzaLast week I was so happy to read that the popular (and incredibly delicious) Kendall Square pizzeria, Emma’s Pizza, is planning to open a new spot (yet to be named) in the space previously occupied by Mangia on Columbus Avenue.

The Boston Restaurant Talk blog writes, “Based on early information, it looks like the new place will be a satellite location focusing mainly on takeout and delivery (slices will be offered as well as whole pies), with counter seating inside and some additional patio seating outdoors during the warmer months.

Furry Friday

Furry FridayI thought I’d share this Easter-themed Furry Friday. I’ll be honest the picture sort of freaks me out but look at the size of his jelly beans. The photo is one of a number of promo photographs for an annual event sponsored by Nasty Pig, that you can read more about here.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, brain teaserEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away.

I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s riddle:
All of Tom’s pets are dogs except one, and all of his pets are cats except one. How many cats and dogs does Tom have?

SOWA farmer’s market now open on Saturday and Sunday

SoWa Farmers MarketStarting Sunday, May 1, 2016 the South End will host two weekly markets that will be separated by about 3 blocks.  For those familiar with where the Sunday market has traditionally resided nothing much will seem different.  The South End Market as it was previously known is moving closer to the Ink Block and will be located in Ming’s Supermarket parking lot. The artist market by the studios and farmer’s market by Cinquecento will now go by the name SOWA Market.

One notable difference with this year’s SOWA Market is their intention to be open on both Saturday and Sunday following the grand opening. The Saturday Farmer’s Market will be slightly smaller with more vendors initially participating every Sunday alongside the Vintage and Artist Markets as well as the Food Truck court located one block away in the Gaslight and BSC parking lot. Below are the names of the vendors lined up to participate for the SOWA Market 2016 season.

This spring check out Boston’s Walk To The Sea

Norman B. Leventhal Walk, Boston historyNearly everyone is familiar with The Freedom Trail. The 2.5 mile (mostly free) route that showcases Boston’s role in the American Revolution is written up in every guide book about the city but many remain unaware of the interesting and completely free 1 mile walk called Walk to the Sea

Starting at the State House in Beacon Hill and concluding in Boston Harbor, this 1-mile walk encompasses four centuries of history and only partially overlaps with the better known Freedom Trail. The Walk to the Sea website does a nice job showcasing the sites of interest as well as a map you can use on your phone or download and bring with you.

Are you planning a trip to Boston or are you new to the city? Reach out to me, and I’d be happy to provide some suggestions on what to see and do.
