Vintage gay

timothy conigrave, Tim conigrave, John Robert CaleoTim Conigrave (shown on the right) was an Australian actor best known for his autobiographical work, Holding the Man (1995), which tells the story of his 15-year love affair with John Caleo (shown on the left). The two met at Xavier College in the late 1970s (where I believe this photo was taken). Conigrave finished the book shortly before dying of an AIDS-related illness in 1994 at the age of 34 and it was published one year later.  Caleo died two years earlier in 1992 at the age of 31 from an AIDS-related illness.  A few years ago their story was made into a film (available on Prime) called, Remembering the Man

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

This week on Instagram: misteroutdoors

Often times less is more when it comes to sexuality and this cheeky Instagram handle certainly adds sizzle with each post. I can’t really tell you very much about the account owner but he certainly has a signature look that will draw the eye. His “perky nature” shots au natural are also available for purchase on his website buttforgood.com.  As an added incentive, 50% of the profits go to a long list of charitable organizations of your choosing so check out the site.

Fenway Health Men’s event cancelled due to Coronavirus

Earlier today Fenway Health announced that this year’s Men’s Event which was scheduled to take place Saturday, March 14th has been cancelled, citing public health concerns stemming from the Coronavirus.

It is with considerable regret that I write to inform you that, in light of the emergent developments concerning COVID-19, we will not be able to hold this year’s Men’s Event as scheduled this Saturday, March 14th at the Boston Marriott Copley Place.

I’m sure that this was not an easy decision since this fundraiser is of great importance to Fenway Health, but I understand their reasoning. You can read the full message on the Men’s Event website, mensevent.org.

Boston’s first marijuana dispensary (finally) opens on Monday

Marijuana was made legal after the question was put to voters at the ballot box in 2016. Statewide 53.7% of the vote was in favor of legalization with 46.3% voting against “Question 4” as it came to be known. In the city of Boston even more of the electorate (67%) voted in favor of legalizing marijuana.

The current Mayor of Boston and Governor of Massachusetts did everything they could to slowdown and complicate the process for paving the way for businesses to open. However, on Monday, Boston will FINALLY have its first recreational marijuana shop.

Pure Oasis pot shop is located at 430 Blue Hill Avenue between Jones Hill and Eglston Square. Their daily hours of operation are between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Pure Oasis happens to also be the first applicant under the economic empowerment equity programs created by the commissio, which gives priority to applicants from areas disenfranchised by the war on drugs.

You can read more about Boston’s first marijuana dispensary for recreational use, here.
