Get your tickets to the Taste of the South End

TOSE, AIDS Action CommitteeThis is my favorite food tasting event in Boston. Sergio and I started attending “The Taste” nearly 20 years ago when I was working at AIDS Action and it continues to be one of my favorite charity events to attend and support.

For one night in March, AIDS Action brings together 40+ South End restaurants for a delicious evening of bite-sized servings, live cooking demonstrations, silent auction, as well as wine tastings and beer sampling. Tickets have been on sales since late last year so if you’ve yet to purchase your tickets don’t delay since the event generally sells out before the night of the event.

For more information and to purchase tickets, visit tasteofthesouthend.org.

Vintage gay

I don’t know about you, but I love how one guy has casually draped his right leg over the left leg of his boyfriend. I can’t help imagine what he is thinking because it seems to me he has quite a look in his eye while posing for this photo.

Much thanks to Bob Lowe who shared the 2016 blog post, Homosexuality & Homoromanticism During the Victorian Era: 28 Vintage Portraits of Gay Couples From the 19th Century where I found this photo.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Devotion by Robert Frost

loveValentine’s Day may have been on Friday, but I’m in favor of extending any holiday that is about expressing your love. This poem, published by Robert Frost in 1928, is a personal favorite. He masterfully paints a picture with his words to describe love in such an intimate manner. Whenever I read this poem it is with a soundtrack softly playing in my head of waves crashing on the beach followed by the rushing noise of the water quickly receding back into the ocean.

Devotion

The heart can think of no devotion
Greater than being shore to ocean –
Holding the curve of one position,
Counting an endless repetition.
