Dekkoo

Dekkoo (pronounced DEK-oo) is the brainchild of Derek Curl, a producer and businessman who, after his company bought Philadelphia’s TLA Entertainment Group in 2014, set out to establish a platform for gay cinema. I first heard and wrote about Dekkoo back in 2015 when they were offering a free trial.

As streaming has become more mainstream, Dekkoo has grown in popularity but I’m curious and would love to hear from readers if they subscribe to the service and if so, what do they think about it.

Right now Dekkoo is offering a 7-day free trial and 50% off the first month if you use the promo code THANKS. You can check out the site and learn more about the service here, dekkoo.com.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:

There are two bodies on the floor. They are surrounded by water and broken glass. How did they die?

For the rest of us, here are some eventss that I think you may enjoy. If you’re looking for fun outside of a bar check out Find Your Tribe: Short Film Program hosted by Wicked Queer & Boston Jewish Film Festivals on Saturday at the MFA in Boston on Friday. Alternatively if you need a good laugh head over to Penny 4 Ya Thoughts?  at Jacques for some painfully funny dating stories.

There are a ridiculous number of dance parties (check’em out below), but as a child of the 80s I have to give a shout out to dbar’s Decades Dance Party featuring music of the 1980s on Saturday. On Sunday go check out Destiny at Carrrie Nation Cocktail Lounge for their Drag Me To Brunch party.

The Boston Ballet presents The Nutcracker

The Boston Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker opens two weeks from today. Each year I like to give this classic ballet a plug, because the entire experience from walking into the Boston Opera House to watching the ballet  and listening to the orchestra puts me in such a wonderful mood.

Boston Ballet presents The Nutcracker Nov. 29 – Dec. 30

Consider picking up tickets for a show and making an evening of going to the ballet with friends or someone special. It makes for an excellent date night.

Vintage gay

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Boston Gay Men’s book club is reading Kens

Boston Book Festival, BBFHeterosexuality is so last season in Raziel Reid’s book, Kens, which was published this past September.

The book has been described as a gay Heathers meets Mean Girls. Kens is a about the three Kens of Willows High who rule the school and Tommy Rawlins who so desperately wants to be accepted by the Kens. This is a funny and provocative story about identity and acceptance.

Boston’s Gay Men’s Book Club will meet Monday, November 26th at The Trident Cafe & Booksellers on Newbury Street in the Back Bay to dish on this novel. All are welcome. For more information click on the link below.
