Saying goodbye to summer

Ptown, ProvincetownSummer always passes too quickly for my liking. Although fall doesn’t technically start for another few weeks, the season officially ends in the United States with Labor Day. I suppose the summer like temperatures we will experience through this week is a small consolation.

Sergio and I were able to get away for a few fun trips this summer including a fantastic stay in Montreal. We also flew to Brazil to celebrate Sergio’s mother’s 86th birthday, which was followed by a fun weekend with my family on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Finally, in August we were able to enjoy an extended stay in Provincetown during Carnival.

I hope you had a wonderful summer and made some great memories as well.

Boston theater companies new fall shows

BosArts, American Repertory Theater, SpeakEasy Stage, Lyric Stage Company, Huntington Theater, Zeitgeist Stage, Central Square Theater, Emerson TheaterSeptember brings back more than tens of thousands of students to Boston. Most of Boston’s local theater companies return with new productions and this year local theater companies have an impressive line up with some productions already underway.

It is great to see traveling Broadway shows and other national tours that come to Boston, but it is the local theater companies that are the lifeblood of Boston’s theater scene. These companies are so worthy of your patronage so consider attending one or more of these productions this fall.

Cellmates in a Latin American prison, Valentin is a tough Argentine revolutionary and Molina is an unapologetic homosexual serving eight years for deviant behavior. SPEAKEASY STAGE COMPANY
Between Riverside and Crazy || September 14 – October 13

ARTS EMERSON
Hamnet || September 20 – October 7
William Shakespeare had one son, Hamnet, who died at the age of 11 without ever really knowing his famous father.  This tour-de-force performance confronts what it means  (and costs)to be great, and how living in the shadow of that greatness can keep one in the dark.  More Info Here.

THE HUNTINGTON THEATRE (at the Avenue of the Arts)
Sherlock’s Last Case || September 28 – October 28
Take a trip to Baker Street with the legendary Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, to solve the seemingly perfect crime. When a threat is made against Holmes’ life by the son of his longtime nemesis, Moriarty, not everything is as it appears. The game’s afoot with equal parts hilarity and intrigue in the long-overdue Boston premiere of this murderously funny comedy-thriller. More Info Here.

Rumors suggest Paradise in Cambridge will close in September

This weekend I was contacted and told that the gay nightclub, Paradise, located at 180 Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge will close later this month to accommodate Novartis Pharmaceuticals expansion plans, which recently bought the space for $1.75 million

I have not been able to confirm the closing date, but for several years there has been talk that Paradise (one of only a handful of gay nightclubs remaining in Boston) would eventually close due to Novartis inevitable expansion.

Anyone with more information, please contact me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend

Although the heatwave that had most of New England sweltering through much of the week is no longer here and the forecast is for rain, I want to wish everyone a fun-filled long holiday weekend. Summer is Boston’s briefest season and I will miss it. I had a wonderful summer with friends and family this year.

Furry Friday

handsome, hunk, hairy chestI’m not saying I would do this now, but there was a point in my life where I would’ve seriously considered tapping his bumper (so to speak) so we’d have to exchange phone numbers for our insurance adjusters to connect.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

The R-rated riddles I shared earlier this summer proved to be really popular. I couldn’t help but chuckle each time Blobby left a comment so here is another riddle which sounds a lot more adult than the answer I’m actually looking for.

This week’s brain teaser:  What is typically 6 inches long, you like to put in your mouth even though it can sometimes make you gag.

Vintage gay

handsome black coupleI believe I may have previously posted this photo before but it is so adorable and it is so hard to find good photos of Black and African American same sex couples from the first half of the last century that I decided to re-post it when I stumbled upon the photo shared with me on Pintrest.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

For a friend…

Sometimes I use my blog as a way to express my sentiments to those who need to hear it.  So like the song says, “Sail on silver girl…” and heal my friend.
