The most searched for cocktail in your state

Food & wine, drinking, drinks, cocktailIn February Food & Wine shared this interesting graphic of the most popular cocktail in each state. The information was compiled by Versus Reviews, a consumer goods research organization, that released this visual guide after reviewing data from Google over the last 12 months to determine which were the most searched for cocktails in each state.

Although I mostly drink wine, I thought it was interesting that it aligned to my preference for cocktails. If I’m not drinking wine, I am inclined to order either a martini or gin & tonic which according to their research is the preferred cocktail for Massachusetts. What a strange coincidence that a G&T is also the preferred cocktail of Washington State – yet another similarity for those Amazon Executives to consider as they contemplate where to set up their HQ2.

gdlartI don’t know much about this Italian photographer but I like his handsome models and the quirky photos on his Instagram account which typically focus on the male torso. The photographer who’s name remains a mystery, fixates on male models with who are incredibly toned. Most of his photos include model torsos with their heads wrapped in colorful tulle fabric.

Boston’s LGBTQ swim club: LANES

SwimmerEach Tuesday I feature a different LGBTQ club or organization to help connect gay men living in the Boston area. One such group you may not know about is Boston’s great swimming club, LANES – Liquid Assets New England Swimming.

LANES swims year round so you can join at anytime and with five practices scheduled each week (three during the week and two on the weekends) you are sure to find a time that will work for you. Everyone is welcome to join. LANES has everyone from former collegiate swimmers to those who are swimming to stay in shape – and of course the social aspect, which you can learn more about by visiting them online and joining them at one of their upcoming practices.Brian Moynihan, William Lawson, LANES, Liquid Assets New England Swimming, gay boston

For more information visit LANES online at swim-lanes.org or on Facebook at Liquid Assets New England Swimming.

I want to feature the LGBTQ groups and organizations that help people connect and enrich Boston’s gay life. If you’d like to have your club / team featured, please email me at bosguymail@gmail.com or via FB messenger.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. My job has me in all day training classes, and it’ll be a struggle just to get the work from my day job done while I’m out of the office.

Anoush’ella restaurant review

affordable south end dining

Last September the South End welcomed Anoush’ella; a family owned and operated Eastern Mediterranean restaurant that serves Armenian and Lebanese cuisine. The casual dining restaurant is a welcome change to the $30+ a plate restaurants that dominate the South End and as you can see from above the space is well designed and very comfortable.

Most of the menu focuses on flatbreads, wraps and bowls, which you order at the counter (everyone is very patient and is happy to explain the menu). Once you’ve ordered find a seat at the bar, communal table or individual tables in the back.

south end dining, armenian cuisine in bostonShakShuka ($9.75) and Walnut Harissa ($3.50)

While the restaurant is very popular for lunch and dinner and has a brisk take out business, I have have started visiting Anoush’ella for breakfast on Saturday mornings. With the average price point for breakfast, lunch and dinner ~$15, you can afford to visit repeatedly if you like.

Above is what has become my “go to” breakfast: Shakshuka which is diced tomatoes, onion, olives and red pepper with za’atar (a blend of oregano, basil & thyme), cumin, coriander, paprika, garlic cloves, topped with cilantro, two poached eggs and labne (Greek yogurt). I also get a side of the Walnut Harrissa which is made with red peppers and adds a bit of heat. The pita bread is made fresh to order, and I use it to scoop the food. They also have sweeter options for those who may prefer something a tad less savory including: Nutella chocolate with strawberry, banana, cinnamon, honey and granola as well as some more traditional Armenian options like Kenefe, which is made with crushed filo dough and cheese wrapped with sesame seeds and served with orange blossom syrup.

Anoush’ella is open seven days a week. Monday through Friday 11AM – 9:30PM and Saturday and Sunday 10AM – 9:30PM and serves beer and wine.

BosGuy Rating: 4 out of 5 stars, Awesome.
