The Show Me State is now the Marry Me State

Missouri Marriage EqualityMarriage Equality comes to the “Show Me State” Missouri

From the HRC website:  Today Judge Ortrie D. Smith ruled against Missouri’s state constitutional amendment banning marriage equality, making the Show Me State the latest state to see such a ban struck down in court since the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its historic marriage rulings last June.  In Lawson v. Kelly, the ACLU of Missouri sued the state on behalf of same-sex couples who argue that Missouri’s ban on marriage equality violates the U.S. Constitution.  For more information link here.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, comes out

gay, coming out, closetThe gay community has known that Apple CEO, Tim Cook, is gay for a very long time.  Despite that fact news of Tim Cook coming out today is a HUGE deal.

Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It’s made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It’s been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It’s also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you’re the CEO of Apple.

Dick of the week: Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)

Dick of the week Rep. Louie GohmertEarlier this week U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert, a Republican from Texas, made headlines after his appearance on a conservative talk radio show called, “Point of View” where he apparently went on a rant about gays in the military.

His reasoning why gays should be banned — they’ll want massages, which leaves America open to terrorism.

Really?  Gay men would be too preoccupied with getting massages from each other?  My response:  “You are too stupid to try and reason with so would you please just STFU Rep. Gohmert.

Dykes in Hell’s Kitchen

Gay HumorI always chuckle when I pass this sign in Hell’s Kitchen. I know it is juvenile but that shouldn’t be news to anyone who reads this blog regularly.

HRC wants health insurers to cover Truvada

Gilead, HRCThis weekend the largest U.S. gay-rights organization, HRC, endorsed efforts to promote the use of Truvada, a once-a-day pill to prevent HIV infection.  They are now calling on insurers to provide more generous coverage of the drug.

Truvada’s preventive use has been endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and many HIV/AIDS advocacy groups, but America’s puritanical tendencies alongside valid concerns that the drug might promote risky sexual behavior that won’t protect against other STDs has led to some doctors being reluctant to prescribe Truvada.

I welcome the HRC’s efforts in this area and hope their new policy paper which strongly supports the preventive use of Truvada and encourages health insurers to provide better insurance coverage will help increase awareness of the drug and make it more accessible to all.

A more provocative Orthodox Calendar 2015

homoerotic calendarThis year’s Orthodox Calendar is decidedly more provocative.  How do I know this? The calendar that features barely clad men with chiseled bodies arrived at my house while I was away on business.

OC maintains that their unconventional and bold images are used to counteract the negative influences of most of the Orthodox Church leadership and challenge notions of sexuality.  You can learn more about this group and purchase the 2015 calendar here.

homoerotic calendarMuch thanks for the 2015 O.C. calendar!
