Gold Dust Orphans

Phantom of the Oprah
February 26th – March 28th

The Gold Dust Orphans Theatrical Company is doing what they do best – making a parody of pop culture by using well known and respected storylines as their source of inspiration.  In this latest production, PHANTOM OF THE OPRAH, Ryan has reached out to and is starring Varla Jean Merman.

I’m excited to see how the classic musical and iconic Winfrey will be interpreted in this latest production.  I have yet to get my tickets, but will certainly pick a night to go with friends.  If you’ve never attended a Gold Dust Orphan play – it is quite the experience and I would encourage you to check it out.  For more information call (617) 265 6222.

Jennifer Coolidge in Boston this weekend

Today I read on EdgeBoston that New England-native, Jennifer Coolidge will be appearing at the Wilbur tomorrow night. I’m so bummed I’ll miss her performance. Every time I watch this woman, she has me clutching my sides because I’m laughing so hard.  Maybe I’ll be able to see her next time she performs in Boston.
In the interim, I’ll just refer to this clip which showcases Jennifer ad lib her way through a movie I loved called, Best in Show.

Show Tune Tuesday

It is Tuesday…. which means that starting at 9pm videos of Broadway and off-Broadway (in some instances way off) will appear on screen at dbar in Dorchester. I’ll definitely be making an appearance next Tuesday, and I am contemplating a visit tonight just to get out and see people. Maybe I’ll request this song from Glee.

The Gays love their close-ups

All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up…

The phenomenon that is YouTube scaled to new heights this year.  One only need only to type in the words “Single Ladies” (last count shows 119,000+ results) to prove my point.  I would guess that the overwhelming majority of these videos are made by gay men.

Although I’m not a fan of the camera, I do enjoy most of these videos. I’ll be the first to admit that in this regard I’m as deep as the kiddie pool, and I can waste countless hours watching these videos since most are usually either quite humorous or include very cute young men lipsynching their way through their favorite songs.

Today while I was on WGB I happened to come across one such video.

All About Christmas Eve

On Friday I’m heading to see the Gold Dust Orphans show “All About Christmas Eve” This was an hilarious show that Ryan Landry initially premiered in December 2008, and I initially wrote about this last year in my post, “All about Christmas Eve.” The show spoofs one of the best Bette Davis movies of all times, “All about Eve”.
Through Ryan’s twisted (albiet supremely creative imagination) the show is set in Boston at Christmas time in 1950. The story starts by introducing the audience to an aging actress named Margo Channing (sound familiar?) If you live in the Boston area, check out the play. It is well worth the money and by going you will be supporting local theater.

Comcast Offering "The French Chef" Episodes for Free

Do you love cooking shows? Do you live in the Boston area?  Well if so, you are in luck.  The blog, Boston Restaurant Talk, has a post today indicating that Comcast has has brought a number of “The French Chef” episodes to their On Demand Service. Partnering with WGBH, the cable company is offering more than 20 episodes of this public television series for free through January 4, 2010.

Julia Child’s “The French Chef” series first premiered in 1963 and lasted for 10 years. The series began two years after the release of her now-famous book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” which was the centerpiece of the movie “Julie and Julia” a popular movie  released in 2009.

Tom Cruise back in South End

It is a very, very rainy Saturday here in Boston and I’m preparing to leave to spend the night up at the family lake house. However, this morning when I looked out my bedroom window, the parking lot across the street was again awash with movie trailers for the filming of Wichita – the Tom Cruise / Cameron Diaz film. Earlier this month I wrote about this in my entries, Tom Cruise filming Wichita in Boston, and Cameron Diaz filming in the South End.
No time to snap any pictures this morning (plus the weather is crap so there is not much to see) so I’ve included a grainy pic or two below from when they were filming across the street in September.

Sam Tsui strikes again – Michael Jackson medley

Thanks to Wicked Gay Blog (WGB) for sharing this latest video of Sam Tsui.  I first wrote about Sam earlier this month in my entry, Don’t Stop Believing.  Check out this MJ medley – it is my favorite video on YouTube at the moment.

Cameron Diaz filming in South End

I feel like a complete idiot! Just yesterday I was commenting to friends about a woman who’s trailer for, Wichita, is directly across from my apartment.  I thought she looked familiar but could not quite place her.  After reading LoadedGun Boston, I realized that woman in the yellow dress is Cameron Diaz.

Cameron seems to be quite chatty – people are constantly visiting her trailer and she is in and out many times through out the day.  I’m really digging the distraction and want to thank my partner in crime (a.k.a. Sergio) for snapping this video (see below) from his Sony camera earlier this morning.  The 30-second clip shows Tom Cruise grabbing Cameron and shoving her into a car.

According to Loaded Gun Boston, “production is hashing out an elaborate crash scene where a commercial 727 airliner skids into a Cumberland Farms cornfield near Curve Street in Bridgewater. Scheduled to shoot Thursday, Sept. 24 and Friday, Sept. 25, the scene depicts the aftermath of a plane crash in a fictional Indiana locale.”

Tom Cruise filming Wichita in Boston

Over the weekend notices were plastered through out the neighborhood that filming for Tom Cruise’s movie, Wichita, would be taking place. There has been a lot of filming in Massachusetts and Boston in particular since Gov. Patrick signed a bill last year that gave the industry a bunch of tax breaks. I first wrote about this back in my February post, Lights, Camera, Action.

Over the past year, Ben Affleck, Mel Gibson and Kate Hudson have all been filming on the streets surrounding my apartment. However, usually the filming crews are scattered through out the neighborhood or they just have a small crew on site to film a few scenes. However, that all changed today when I opened my curtains this morning and saw ta temporary trailer park outside my window.

Today, everytime I walked by my window it seemed as if Tom Cruise, or his wife, Katie, and daughter, Suri, were walking around the make-shift film site. I am not a very good photographer so I apologize for the blurry images, but I still thought it was pretty cool to play “paparazzi”.  I’ve included a few photographs of the Cruise family in their makeshift home for the week while they film outside my apartment. (If you click on the pictures they will enlarge.)

It has been really interesting watching everything take place today and I’ve enjoyed snapping my camera.  Here are few shots of them at the GasLight.  Apparently they are trying to make it quite bright in the restaurant, while they film there scenes.  I wish I was more of a movie buff so I could remember when this comes out to go see how they transformed GasLight Brasserie. If I get a chance tomorrow, I’ll snap a few more photos.

Don’t stop believing

Check out Sam Tsui. Not only does he have a really great voice, but he’s quite creative cloning himself to sing lead and back up in this self-made video. I wonder if he puts a gold star after his name like Rachel Barry from Glee.

Fox TV replayed the pilot episode of glee which initially aired in mid May.  I have high hopes for this new program. For those who appreciate music and dancing as well as a bit of wit and juvenile drama, this will be the show of choice.  Fox will be airing episodes on Wednesdays at 9pm.  Check out the clip below for a sample of what you can expect.

Cheers – The Boys in the Bar

Here is a funny clip from a show I watched back when I was a kid. I don’t think I saw this episode of Cheers which was probably from the first season since it pre-dates Woody and still has Coach as the bartender.

Very funny to watch. Thanks to Gay Guy / Straight Guy for posting it on their blog.

Who do you attract?

Earlier this month I included a quick quiz that evaluated “how gay are you?” I lost some points and only rated 35% gay.

Undeterred, I just finished another survey which asks “Who do you attract?” According to this survey, I attract Yuppies. Is that still a term that is widely used? I do agree that rednecks are least likely to approach or be attracted to me. I think it is fairly obvious that a guy created this survey because based on dating stories / nightmares from some of my girlfriends the categories of “Who you attract” would likely read more like the following: Ego maniac; Player; Emotionally Unavailable, etc…

What type of person do you attract?

Your Result: You attract Yuppies!

You attract the very well-dressed, job oriented type of people. They usually have their finances together, are ‘middle of the road’ on most topics, generally happy with the ‘main-stream’ of things. If it is stability you are after, these are good people to attract, if you seek adventure, it may be time for an overhaul.

You attract geeks!

You attract models!

You attract artsy people!

You attract unstable people!

You attract rednecks!

"You need Pro Caulk!"

When the Pro Caulk informercial first came on the television this afternoon, I could not stop laughing. I think this is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. At one point the voice over actually shouts, “With Pro Caulk you can do it like a professional!”
