Ptown’s 2017 Carnival: Gods & Goddesses

Ptown

2017 Provincetown Carnival Gods & Goddesses: OMG, what will we wear?

100,000 people were expected to come and see Provincetown’s annual carnival parade. This year’s theme Gods & Goddesses had many wearing togas or paying tribute to Greek and Roman Gods but as usual many attendees took liberties with the theme, showing off more than a little creativity.

Below are some wonderful photos taken by my friend and photographer, Kyle Szary. Much thanks to Kyle and to all who posed for a photograph.

Kyle Szarzy, Provincetown, Ptown, CarnivalOne year ago, during Ptown’s Carnival Parade our friend Kyle took this picture of Sergio and me on Commercial Street.  Last year’s theme was the 1980s; not that you’d be able to tell from what we were wearing.

Below is a quick video I posted on Instagram of one of the 1980s themed house parties we attended before the parade.

Leaving for Provincetown’s Carnival celebrations

Provincetown Carnival

Wes dressed as Batman for 2014 Carnival: Comic Book Capers

Tomorrow Sergio and I are heading out on the morning ferry to Provincetown. Although the theme week runs from Saturday to Saturday, the celebrations climax on Thursday as Commercial Street closes for people to show off their individual and group costumes — this is my favorite part of the week — followed by the annual parade.

This year’s theme is Gods & Goddesses.

Provincetown’s 39th Carnival Week: Gods & Goddesses

Pretty Ptown

With all the parties and shows taking place in the height of summer, it is easy to be distracted and miss out on the charm that Provincetown oozes. Strolling through Ptown’s East End and West End is a great way to pass time whether you are on your own or with someone special. I’ve included a few photos to show you what I mean.

Provincetown’s Red Inn has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years

Ptown West End

Provincetown’s West End

Although I don’t get to Provincetown with the same frequency as many of my friends who have second homes here, should you plan a visit to Ptown, feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to steer you in the right direction, providing tips on places to visit, restaurants to try and places to stay.

I’m in a Provincetown state of mind

Sergio left to visit his Mom earlier this week so I decided to visit Provincetown. I’ve been thinking a lot about this special place and have not had an opportunity to visit yet this summer. The photograph shown above is of Long Point Light Station, and I took this photo last year after kayaking to Long Point.

Although the Long Point Light Station first opened 190 years ago, this light house dates back to 1875 (140+ years ago). Kayaking out to this light house has become an unofficial tradition of mine that is typically followed by having a cocktail (or two)  at The Red Inn on my way back to the rental shop.

Provincetown Bear Week, July 8-16, 2017

Over the past few years Bear Week has grown so large that to list all the shows, performances, events and parties would be impractical on my blog. There are more than 80 different performances and more than 100 official events / parties that will take place in Provincetown during Bear Week which officially starts on Saturday, July 8th.  Not even the most excited cub can keep up with so much happening so pace yourself and remember to hold tight to your honey.

Provincetown’s 2017 summer line up of entertainers

Whenever I am contacted by readers asking for suggestions about what to do in Provincetown, I always encourage them to attend at least one performance. The array of talent found in Ptown is astounding. Not only does attending a show help to support these artists but it is also a great way to pass a few hours with friends or someone special.

Below is a listing of the talent coming to Provincetown this summer. I’ve added links to make it easier for you to get more information about these performances and to purchase tickets.
