Donald Trump by Illma Gore

Illma Gore, Unicorn BootyAs if the entire Republican Primary process hasn’t been obscene enough, artist, Illma Gore, has shared a drawing of a naked Donald Trump, entitled ironically “Make America Great Again”.

I’ve never posted anything quite like this before but I find Trump so distasteful as a person (let alone as President) that I wanted to share this because it clearly mocks him and is meant to remind all of us that behind his bluster and xenophobic rants he’s really just an ugly, old man – both inside and out.

You can see the NSFW image on Unicorn Booty’s website here.

Nick wishes you a very happy Valentine’s Day

Patrick Lentz Photography, hairy, handsome, hunkMy friend and local photographer, Patrick Lentz, posted photographs of Nick who lives up on the North Shore, on Friday. The 25 year old from Gloucester loves the camera and agreed to take a series of photographs with Patrick, several of which have a very nice Valentine’s Day theme.

I’ve included a few photos below but you can see more of Nick on Flickr Patrick Lentz Photography, handsome, hairy, hunkPatrick Lentz Photography, handsome, hairy, hunkYou can see more of Patrick’s photography here, www.PatrickLentz.com.

Pretty in Pink 30th anniversary screening this weekend

Pretty in PinkI loved everything about Pretty in Pink when it came out in 1986 – the actors, the story line and of course the soundtrack.  Since the weather in Boston is going to be miserable this weekend, you might want to catch the anniversary showing.

For those who never saw Pretty in Pink, the movie revolves around a high school girl (played by Molly Ringwald) from the wrong side of town and a wealthy heart-throb (played by Andrew McCarthy) and includes all the teenage angst and drama one could imagine in this classic John Hughes film.

When: Sunday, Feb 14, 2016 2:00p – 4:00p
Where: Showcase Cinema de Lux Revere
Admission: $13.50
Showtimes and Tickets: Here

Also showing at Showcase Cinema de Lux Legacy Place (Dedham), Showcase Cinema de Lux Lowell, and Showcase Cinema de Lux Randolph.

Frank Diaz, by Robert Mapplethorpe

Robert Mapplethorpe was a controversial photographer who’s homoerotic work created a national debate over public funding of art in the 1980s. Unfortunately, Mapplethorpe passed away in Boston in 1989 at the age of 42 due to complications from HIV/AIDS, but his work lives on.

In just a few weeks the LACMA and the Getty Museums will present complementary, simultaneous exhibitions of more than 3oo pieces of work entitled, The Perfect Medium.

Calling all artists: Boston wants you to live here

ShakespeareLast week Boston Mayor Marty Walsh in his state of the city speech said he was going to fund three arts-related programs that would have a combined budget of $1 million.  The programs are intended to do the following: 1-provide direct grants to individual artists; 2-help expand the city’s fledgling artist-in-residence program; and 3-establish an artist resource desk at City Hall, to help local artists.

To help support local artists $400,000 in direct artist grants will be available to artists living in Boston. According to The Boston Globe, the Walsh administration has yet to work out the details, but the funds will be unrestricted and likely available to individual artists.

You can read more about this in The Boston Globe’s January 20th article, City’s new trio of arts programs will share $1 million.

IMAGINARY COUPLES by Olivier Ciappa

photographyFirst reported in The Advocate back in June 2013, Gay Voices on Huffington Post recently wrote an article about this bold photography project that brings celebrities together to pose as same-sex couples and families to combat homophobia and provide positive images of recognizable figures engaging in queer relationships.

The series, called “IMAGINARY COUPLES,” is the brainchild of French artist and photographer Olivier Ciappa and has been displayed in galleries and cities around the world from Paris to Lima. “IMAGINARY COUPLES” is tentatively scheduled to hit the United States this summer, possibly in Los Angeles.
