120th Boston Marathon is today

Boston MarathonAll cities host events that are uniquely their own and while most cities around the world have marathons there is something incredibly special about the Boston Marathon. This annual tradition that dates back to 1897 is a signal that spring is here and just as The Regatta in October signals it is fall for many who call Boston home it is a tradition I’m both proud of and look forward to each year.

My heartfelt congratulations to everyone who participates in today’s venerable race and much thanks to the City of Boston and the thousands of volunteers who make this such an amazing event for all in the city to enjoy.Boston Marathon Race Day Schedule

About the Boston Marathon (Source: Wikipedia)
The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by the U.S. city of Boston, Massachusetts, on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday of April. Begun in 1897 and inspired by the success of the first modern-day marathon competition in the 1896 Summer Olympics, the Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world’s best-known road racing events. It is one of the five World Marathon Majors.

This spring check out Boston’s Walk To The Sea

Norman B. Leventhal Walk, Boston historyNearly everyone is familiar with The Freedom Trail. The 2.5 mile (mostly free) route that showcases Boston’s role in the American Revolution is written up in every guide book about the city but many remain unaware of the interesting and completely free 1 mile walk called Walk to the Sea

Starting at the State House in Beacon Hill and concluding in Boston Harbor, this 1-mile walk encompasses four centuries of history and only partially overlaps with the better known Freedom Trail. The Walk to the Sea website does a nice job showcasing the sites of interest as well as a map you can use on your phone or download and bring with you.

Are you planning a trip to Boston or are you new to the city? Reach out to me, and I’d be happy to provide some suggestions on what to see and do.

Massachusetts bipartisan bromance

Hello Adele spoofIn an age where politicians from different political parties barely acknowledge each other, Boston’s Mayor Marty Walsh and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker have what appears to be a healthy and productive working relationship. Late yesterday, “Hello Gov, it’s Marty” Adele Spoof, a video hosted on Vimeo started making its rounds and was picked up by boston.com.

The video celebrates with more than a bit of humor their wooing of GE to move their world headquarters to Boston.

Late night $5 flat fares on Uber start this weekend

Uber BostonThe MBTA’s failure to provide late night service opens the door for services like Uber to roll out $5 flat fares starting this weekend.

Angry with the MBTA for ending late night service on the weekends?  Uber has stepped up to the plate and will be offering $5 flat fares for trips along the MBTA subway lines on its uberPool service starting March 19th and running through April 9th. The following is from the Uber Newsroom earlier this month.

The end of late night service on the T will have an impact on thousands of people who will be seeking an alternative safe ride home during early hours. In an effort to continue connecting Bostonians to the people, places, and businesses they love, we will be offering $5 uberPOOL rides along T subway lines during late night hours for four weekends starting on March 19th.

Watch for updates here.
