Here is a photo of my father from a few years ago. Today happens to be his birthday, and I wanted to stop and acknowledge the day. My father continues to be one of my real life heroes and someone I try to emulate in all that I do.
One of the things that I love about my mother is her ability to remember and share funny memories from our past. Earlier this week my mother sent this funny email to my younger brother and me.
“I remember one Halloween when you (MY BROTHER) wanted to be a homo. Rob corrected you and said, ‘You mean a hobo.’ Funny how life turns out!
Love, Mom”
Sergio is flying down to Brazil today to help his family, and he will be gone for about a a week. I am happy he can make this quick visit, but I’m still doing my best not to mope around the house. I always hate saying good bye to him and feel like I miss him most in the hours leading up to and following his departure, which is kind of odd because this wasn’t the case when we first met and he was a flight attendant. However, since leaving the travel industry, I’ve become accustomed to having him around and his presence will be missed. 😦
Little brother, his wife and their dog are spending tonight at my apartment before flying out to Southern California tomorrow. About a week ago, the entire family gathered up at the parent’s lake house in Wolfeboro, NH for one last get together before their move. I want to wish them much luck. I will sorely miss having them here in Boston with Sergio and me.
My partner Sergio may have been born and raised in Brazil, but he speaks better English than many Americans. However, he does have a few rather peculiar ways to express himself that I find endearing.
One of my favorite expressions he uses regularly seems to manifest when he is scheduling client appointments. His lighting design business is quite busy these days and when he is trying to find a time to meet with a client he is quite likely to say something to the effect of, “Yes, I’m very busy, but I could squeeze you tomorrow.” Perhaps it is his soft accent, but nobody ever raises an eyebrow.
Anyone who knows my crazy partner, Sergio, knows that he’s hardly camera shy; quite the opposite actually. I’m the one who dislikes being photographed – unless I think the photo is funny like this one of me How do you like my duck?
Apparently my goofy sense of humor has rubbed off because earlier this week when we were walking to Towne for dinner Sergio said “quick, take a picture of me” and before I realized it he had hopped on the gate and struck this pose.
This weekend I am up at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire to spend time with my family and to celebrate Father’s Day. This is a photo of my Dad on his boat last summer up at the lake. I wanted to dedicate this post to my father and all the other Dad’s out there. I wouldn’t want to imagine my life without him. He’s the single most amazing man I’ve ever met and I love him dearly.
After spending the past two weeks in Brazil, Sergio returned home Marathon Monday. He had a hectic two weeks helping his Mom care for his father and he’ll likely need to head back before long, but for now I’m glad to have him back home – especially in light of how horrible Marathon Monday turned out.
Today is my mother’s birthday, and I wanted to wish her another happy and healthy year. And yes Mom, I will be calling later today.
Sergio has dashed off to Brazil to be with his family for the next two weeks. When we first met, Sergio was a flight attendant for United Airlines so I was accustomed to his coming and going but that stopped years ago. Now that he has his own lighting design business, Mazon Lighting Design, the only travel he does involves driving to client sites so the apartment seems strangely serene quiet.
Truth be told, I enjoy my quiet time and I’ll fall into a routine quickly enough, but today I do miss him – it is the saying good bye and the initial surprise of a home that’s gone suddenly still that takes some getting use to. I have grand plans to tidy up the apartment, organize every shelf and drawer, get to the gym each day and read a stack of books – but we’ll see how that goes. I’m great at making plans but sometimes the follow through leaves a bit to be desired.
Unfortunately not all my first cousins from my mother’s side of the family could make it to the Albiani cousins cocktail party this weekend, but I think it was a success. I thought it would be fun to have a family photo and wanted to share it.
My sister Susan decided she would ride out last week’s storm (a.k.a. nemo) up at my parent’s house on Lake Winnipesaukee near downtown Wolfboro, NH.
To provide some perspective on the “winter wonderland” her camera phone captured, I have included a photo of the house during warmer times.
I can’t believe it was one year ago today we were boarding the Atlantis Caribbean Cruise on the Allure to celebrate Sergio’s birthday. Tonight dinner is on me.

In August my brother was married on Cape Cod. It was a fantastic ceremony and although this photo isn’t from their wedding (its actually at Fenway Park – how appropriate), this was the image I had at the time I wrote the post.

I’m down on Cape Cod to attend my little brother’s wedding, which is actually tomorrow afternoon. I couldn’t be happier for them, and I’m looking forward to the celebration. I love them both dearly.
