Hatfields & McCoys filming in South End

Patrick John FluegerSince Massachusetts passed a tax credit to encourage more filming in the state, it seems like every month there is a movie being filmed somewhere in the city.  However, I’m hard pressed to think of the last time a television show inconvenienced me with a filming. But we just received notice that March 13-15 and 19-20 filming will take place on Waltham Street for the television show, Hatfields & McCoys. I’m not familiar with the show, but a quick look at IMDB let me know that Patrick John Flueger is reason enough to be excited to see them filming down the street. I wonder if he is this handsome in person?

Tweet of the day: Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen

Yesterday GLAAD reported that the band Train has also pulled out of the Boy Scouts of America event after GLAAD asked performers to reconsider supporting an organization that bans gay boys / young men.

While I’m hardly a Jepsen fan, I’m sure there are many who will be attending the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree who were excited to have her perform and perhaps her public decision not to join will help raise this issue again.  Well done Carly and thank you to all the performers who have showed their support.

Southie Rules

Southie RulesThe A&E network will roll-out a new reality show later this month that supposedly shows viewers “real life” in Southie; one of Boston’s working class, Irish enclaves that in recent years has seen an influx of young professionals.

I have no doubt many in the area will beam with pride because a cable network channel will broadcast what I assume will be stereotypical “characters” to scripted dramas manufactured more for ratings than any concern for reality. Funny, I thought shows like Real Housewives and Jersey Shore were waning in popularity – perhaps not.

My lack of interest in this latest un-reality program turned to disdain when I saw The Boston Globe had listed a series of promo ads from A&E. One of the promos meant to be a put-down to NYC “Nobody tells us how big our soda should be” sounds as if it came directly from a NYC advertising agency. Anyone who has lived their life in Southie will tell you Soda, Pop, Coke… is all called one thing in Boston — Tonic. Get your colloquialisms correct or “Póg Mo Thón”.

Single Ladies Gone Wrong

I don’t know how I missed this video and want to thank my friend Joe for sharing this classic.  The video’s title, Single Ladies Gone Wrong, really sums this up best. I promise this will give you a good chuckle.

2012 pop music mash up

Probably the best mash up I’ve seen for pop music from 2012.  Was this a good year for you? Hearing these songs will probably make you smile and remember some of those happy memories. Enjoy the mash up.

Rob Wilson from The Price is Right

Earlier this year Rob Wilson from Boston was selected to be the first male model for the Price is Right.  I like to refer to this handsome Bostonian as “the other Rob Wilson from Boston”.  Recently BuzzFeed included several outtakes from an earlier underwear photo shoot for Men’s Underwear Store.

Do You Know Your Celebrity Mustaches?

Earlier this month BuzzFeed asked the all important question “Do you know your celebrity mustaches?”…  Take their quiz and see if you are a celeb mustache connoisseur or need to go back to school and take mustache 101.  BuzzFeed Celebrity Mustache Quiz

Sexiest Man Alive

It’s that time of year when publishers trot out their “Sexiest Man Alive” issue.  This year People Magazine named Channing Tatum the sexiest man alive but this is so 6 months ago.  You only need to turn on the radio to know that everyone in America is cuckoo for Koreans. How else can one explain “Gagnum Style” by Korean singer, Psy?

So I have to agree with The Onion who named Kim Jong-Un, Supreme Leader of North Korea the sexiest man alive for 2012. You can read more about Kim Jong-Un on The Onion, here.

The Carrie Diaries on CW

Will the prequel to Sex In The City, The Carrie Diaries be a hit or a flop?  The CW show will debut in January, and to drum up interest they have started to release Season Preview clips on YouTube.

The show opens in Connecticut in 1984 soon after 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw loses her mother.  I can’t say that this will make it to my DVR, but I can see the appeal. The trailer recently released makes me think the show which I’d initially thought sounded terrible may have promise.

MFA exhibit: Mario Testino “In Your Face”

mario testino and tom bradyThe Mario Testino show In Your Face at the MFA Boston includes 122 photographs.  Have you already seen this show which premiered at Boston’ Museum of Fine Arts this past weekend and will run through February 3rd?

This show would seem to be a “Must See” for fashionistas and pop culture enthusiasts.  What an amazing opportunity; no schlepping to the MoMA in MidTown, NYC like you had to see the Alexander McQueen show. More about this show at the MFA here.

Obama – Hendrix Mural in MA

The President’s Rock Club in Quincy, MA mural of President Barack Obama as Jimi Hendrix has to come down after a resident took issue with it, saying the mural was a political sign.

What a pity, considering the name of the bar / club the mural was sort of appropriate. Maybe they should rename their bar as the Former President’s Rock Club then they could have a mural of Bill Clinton as John Coltrane playing the saxophone.
