The McCarthy’s is a new sitcom on CBS that takes place in Boston later this month. The lead role stars former NKOTB singer, Joey McIntyre.  I hadn’t heard of the show until I read Out.com’s review, which by the way panned it.

Out.com reviewer, Daniel D’Addario, wrote, “The problem is that Ronny [played by Joey McIntyre] is the kind of walking cliché that savvy viewers would think disappeared sometime between Will & Grace and Happy Endings.” (outch!)

D’Addario describes the portrayal of the gay character played by Joey McIntyre as something that would have been in vogue 10-15 years ago.  While I’ve never been one to put too much credence on reviews, some of the critiques make me cringe. Hopefully a more interesting storyline will emerge following the pilot.  Do you plan to watch The McCarthy’s?

Chelsea Handler’s popular show, Chelsea Lately, on E Television will end on Tuesday, August 26th.  I’m  not sure what is next for the author of Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea.  Her show has given a number of comedians an excellent platform, and I really liked her format which is very different from other night time talk shows on television.

I have no idea who will follow Stephen Colbert after he replaces David Letterman on CBS, but I’d love to see her follow Stephen and replace the Craig Ferguson Late Show.

Earlier this week Eater Boston said rumors were swirling that Top Chef might be filming upcoming Season 12 in Boston.  Yesterday those rumors were confirmed.  The cast and crew will film all over the city and at the coast, including sites like Fenway Park and Plimoth Plantation as possible destinations. The season will also involve some Boston personalities who are affiliated with the show. Past Boston-based “Top Chef” contestants include Sweet Cheeks boss Tiffani Faison , who was on the first season of the series, and restaurateur Michael Schlow , who was on “Top Chef Masters” were mentioned in the Boston Globe article.

I’ve never watched the show since cooking competitions stress me out.  I’m more interested in the food than the intrigue or competition, but I think it will be cool to have them showcase Boston by filming here.

This morning I had a good laugh when I saw the current Rolling Stones magazine cover in a Boston.com article.  It features a naked Julia Louis-Dreyfus with the US Constitution and John Hancock’s signature scrawled on her back. It is unclear to me if the historical error is intentional or a gaffe. The Boston.com makes it seem that it was (sadly) the former.
