According to tradition, the color underwear you choose to wear tonight signifies the change you want in 2013. For those who like the status quo, I suggest going commando.

With the Christmas holiday now over, many start thinking about New Year’s Eve and making predictions for the coming year – so here are a few of mine.

The number of overused “buzz words” that make me roll my eyes will continue to grow.  Buzz words from 2012 like “Artisanal” and “Fiscal Cliff” will join others from years past such as “Foodie” and “Organic”. With regards to the aforementioned buzz word with political connotations, I predict the political shenanigans in DC will only serve to further disappoint and frustrate.  While I don’t expect the economy to collapse, I also don’t expect the politicians to make any meaningful fixes.

However, not all my predictions for 2013 are negative. I predict the NHL will learn its lesson and reconcile for sake of hockey fans.  I also predict a much less painful baseball season for Red Sox Nation and lastly, I predict we will hear increasingly less from the “Tea Party”.  All of which makes me quite optimistic for all of us. So should I forget to say it later this week – Happy New Year.

According to a recent article published in the Washington Post, Americans are very emotional.  Since 2009, the Gallup polling firm has surveyed people in 150 countries and territories on, among other things, their daily emotional experience.  They’ve determined that Singapore is the least emotional country and The Philippines the most.  However, I’m somewhat suspect, because I’ve been in a relationship with a Brazilian for quite awhile and we are nowhere near as emotional as our Latin friends to the south.

What do you think about this survey? What nations would you assume would be the most and least emotional?

My Mom taught me this, but it seems like a few people need to have a refresher course since their Mom’s weren’t as awesome as mine.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of text messaging.  Can you believe it?  Although I predate text messaging (by a lot) it is hard for me to imagine life without the ability to text.

I have come to use text messaging as one of my primary ways to communicate with friends. I’m far more inclined to text a friend to see if they are busy than call.

Without this technology, one of my favorite sites Texts From Last Night would never have been created. Are you a texting-fiend or do you barely ever text?

Proving once again that no matter how old I get I still have the sense of humor of a 7 year old boy.

Google actually filed for incorporation on September 4, 1998, but according to Wired the search giant celebrates their birthday “whenever we feel like cake”.

To celebrate, Google.com has an animated cake to mark the occasion.  The cake has its candles lit, before being eaten away to reveal the Google logo.
