Serenading Kurt: Teenage Dream

Watching Glee makes me wish I could be a teenager all over again. Its hard for me to imagine having TV shows w/ characters like Kurt on air. I grew up thinking I was mentally ill and only sexually depraved individuals were attracted to the same sex.

Its quite hard to articulate the impact that had but many of my contemporaries and certainly men older than me understand. I suppose that is partly why I can watch clips like this serenading of Kurt over and over again. Its hard for me to fathom that pop culture has moved so far in such a short period. Fear not, political changes are inevitable when clips like this play in middle America and ratings place Glee as one of the most popular shows in prime time.

Boston flag football team shows their moves

Teammates from the gay, Boston flag football league around this time last year tried to get Ellen DeGeneres’ attention by courting her with this cute video. They also taped a second video of them dancing all around Boston Logan Airport which you can view here.

I don’t believe they ever made it to the Ellen show, but kudos to them for trying. Enjoy the video, which runs about 90-seconds.

Obama says "It gets better"

Thanks David over at WGB for bringing this to my attention. Again, here is another example of only one party talking to the GLBT community. Is it any wonder I’m a stalwart of the party?

If McCain / Palin were in office what do you think might have been their message? Am I being unfair raising speculation that there would not have been a response? History leads me to believe not.

Support your local theater and artists

Ministry of Pleasure blog recently referenced one of my favorite musicals of all-time, Avenue Q. It is no longer on Broadway but continues to tour, and although seeing a broadway show is not quite the same as supporting your local theater scene – I still hope it inspires you to purchase tickets to a local play or musical.

What you want to do?

I’ve seen this song popping up on a handful of blogs and now I can’t get the catchy hooks from the chorus out of my head. I assume a video is forthcoming from Nelly Furtado so if you like keep an eye out on her fan page. Beware the song is catchy and you may end up humming it all day long like I’ve been doing.

Lady Gaga asks fans to call politicians to repeal DADT

Lady Gaga is using her celebrity status to raise awareness about the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell vote in the U.S. Senate. In the video she eloquently describes why she is opposed to DADT and uses her time on camera to quite brilliantly show her fans how to get involved in the political process.

Does this make me like Lady Gaga even more? Damn right it does. Now for those of you living in states where your Senators have not expressed support for repealing DADT – won’t you consider following Lady Gaga’s lead and call?

Senator Scott Brown will be hearing from me.
If you live in MA you can call him at 202.224.4543

Hey Mom & Dad your NH US Senators:
Retiring Sen. Judd Gregg – 603.622.7979

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen – 202.224.2841

Tom Brady’s car accident 911 call (parody)

Last week local news in New England was obsessed with a car accident on the streets of back bay because an individual had run a red light and hit Patriot’s QB, Tom Brady. I could not have cared less, but I assure you I was in the distinct minority.

The YouTube video is a parody of the reporting of the car accident and is just one more example of how obsessed New England is with their sports teams.

Brazilian funk

Considering the responses I received from my last post, I thought I would stick with the Brazilian theme and include these 6 teenagers. I initially posted this video back in December 2008, in my entry I love the holidays.

Check out this funny 2-minute video entitled “Cueca Funk”. I have a bit of a crush on the guy in the royal blue boxers on the left. FYI – Cueca is Portuguese for underwear.

Rizzoli & Isles: New Boston television drama series

Tonight I watched the new TNT drama, which follows two detectives Jane Rizzoli (played by Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (played by Sasha Alexander). The episode was chalk-full of Boston scenes – fortunately nobody tried to fake a Boston accent. Who can tell if the series will be successful, but I enjoyed watching the show.

Sunday’s guilty pleasure: Cazwell

Massachusetts native, Cazwell, is getting a lot of attention with gay bloggers. His video “Meet me at the ice cream truck” received more than 600,000 hits in its first 7-days. And with nearly every gay blogger posting the YouTube clip, the number of views will certainly continue to climb quickly. You can watch or download the video by linking here.

BTW – Should anyone be looking for me, I’ll be out by the ice cream truck looking for Cazwell and his crew.

Why homosexuality should be banned

I’ve posted this video before but in light of yesterday’s ruling by Federal Judge Vaughn Walker to strike down California’s odious Prop 8, I thought I would post this again. Enjoy the 2-minute clip and pass it along.

Bellagio fountain – Las Vegas

Sergio has been playing with the Microsoft video editing tool that came with his new Dell and I think he’s done a great job overlaying some rather dramatic music to video he took on his last visit to Las Vegas.  It takes a minute or two to download if you don’t have a great internet connection, but check it out.

Music: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana’s – O Fortuna

Here comes the rain

I’m seeing a lot of posts on blogs that I read with videos from 80s bands lately so I’ve decided to hop on the bandwagon and have posted this video from the 80s glam / punk band, The Cult.  I’ve taken the metaphor literally today since thunder showers are predicted off and on through out the afternoon.

What 80s bands or songs have you been listening to recently?

I want an iPhone (NSFW)

Hilarious… just beware the dialog is a bit profane.

Lady Gaga Medley

I first posted the Sam Tsui cover of Don’t Stop Believing back in September 2009; a recent posting of this video on a blog I read indicates that it now has more than 9,000,000 views (amazing).  I really love the cover, but I fell head over heals for his Michael Jackson Medley which I posted later in the year.  After a quick visit to YouTube tonight I thought I’d post his Lady Gaga Medley which is not as creative as the MJ video, but I think he’s amazingly talented and I’m a big fan of Ms. Gaga so I could not resist. Enjoy the video.

Also, something I did not realize initially is that Sam is backed up by Kurt Hugo Schneider on these clips and he too deserves accolades for his part in the making of these videos which so many enjoy. If you select the link I’ve included for Kurt it will bring you out to his channel on YouTube where you can hear Sam’s version of “For Good” (featuring Nick Pitera) from the musical Wicked.
