Fenway Men’s Event is Saturday, March 10

Fenway Health Men's Event

Fenway Health Men’s Event is Saturday, March 10, 2018

Saturday, March 10th Fenway Health will celebrate 25 years of The Men’s Event and 1,300 gay and bisexual men, transgender people and our allies will attend this important fundraiser at the Boston Marriott Copley.  This year’s Congressman Studds Award Winner is the popular, former Massachusetts Governor, Deval Patrick.

A chilling shift in political currents has taken place in the United States since Patrick was our governor and the LGBTQ community has gone from having a friend in the White House to a President who’s policies and actions specifically target the LGBTQ community. It is important for our community to come together and support each other which is one reason Sergio and I will be attending this year’s program. Tickets remain available for the 2018 Men’s Event on Saturday, March 10. To learn more about the event or to purchase tickets visit, mensevent.org.

Much thanks to UB2 Inc for posting such a lovely video of last year’s celebration. I’ve included their YT clip below for everyone to enjoy.

Furry Friday

furry friday, luge, hairy, handsome, olympics, olympian, hunkThis week I’m featuring Chris Mazdzer who set U.S. Olympic history this past Sunday by capturing the Silver Medal in the luge men’s singles competition. I know that he has been a popular person since Cosmo released their video of several handsome male Olympians providing cringe-worthy pick up lines, but if you happened to miss it you can watch it here.

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:  Four giants in rock who make no music but remain legends. What am I / who are we?

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Cynical love poem by Dorothy Parker

George Olesky

Photo of George Olesky by Nile Hawver / Nile Scott Shots from SpeakEasy Stage Co. “Shakespeare in Love”

Dorothy Parker’s six-line poem from the 1920s is a cynical assessment of romance. However in the age of Tinder and exchanging dozens of emails or texts before coming together or organically meeting, Ms. Parker’s cynicism seems remarkably current for a poem that is nearly 100 years old.

By the time you swear you’re his,
Shivering, and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Indefinite, undying –
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

– Dorothy Parker, from Unfortunate Coincidence

Temptation Tuesday

Thiago Zanini, handsome, hunk, brazilian, gostosoLate last year I featured Thiago Zanini in a Temptation Tuesday post and the response was overwhelmingly positive (to put it mildly) so I thought I’d feature him again. This Brazilian from Sao Paulo is if nothing else very tempting.

NewRep Theatre presents Lonely Planet

bosarts, boston theater

NewRep Theatre: Photo by Andrew Brilliant / Brilliant Pictures

The NewRep Theater located in Watertown currently has a show getting a lot of attention called, Lonely Planet, which tells the story of two friends during the height of the AIDS epidemic in America. The play has been revived as part of the NewRep’s 2017-2018 season, which is focused on the theme of resilience.

While AIDS is no longer a death sentence the stigma remains and the virus continues to impact gay men and communities of color disproportionately. Lonely Planet asks the audience to look beyond the virus, that has killed more than 35 million people, and focus on community and compassion. The two-hour play  centered on the friendship between Carl and Jody provides an interesting and sometimes humorous contrast between the two as they struggle to make sense of a virus that is ravaging their community.

The play opened on February 3rd and runs through March 4th. Tickets remain for most shows.
