In the 2004 election, marriage equality advocates were on their heels after losing at the ballot box in eleven states. At the time, only Massachusetts recognized same sex marriage and many saw these defeats as a repudiation of my state’s insistence to recognize the rights of gays and lesbians.
Fast forward less than a decade and the tide of public opinion has shifted in favor of legalizing same sex marriages. Proof of that was the four wins in the November 2012 elections regarding same sex marriage. Hoping to capitalize on the change of heart, the campaign arm of the House Democrats launched what has turned out to be their most successful online campaign ever.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reports that it has seen more than 10 million views on its Facebook page and nearly half a million Facebook likes. If you’d like to show your support on Facebook like this page.
Earlier this week, Eater Boston reported that the Pu Pu Hot Pot, a Chinese restaurant that has served meals in Cambridge’s Central Square for two decades will now become a new restaurant called The Dumpling Room.
Last week The Boston Herald reported medical marijuana dispensaries in Massachusetts could open by the end of the year. Despite lobbying from those claiming marijuana is a “gateway drug”, last November 63% voters approved legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes. The ballot initiative won in a jaw-dropping 349 out of 351 communities state-wide.
While this might be a divisive position, I would like decriminalization of marijuana and state regulation of this substance. I find far fewer issues associated with marijuana than I do with alcohol and think this would prove to be an excellent source of tax revenue. What do you think?
Not only do I approve because this helps to conserve water, but it is practical. How else can you properly wash your back and other bits sufficiently? An extra hand is always appreciated when getting ready for a night out.
Have a great weekend.

This week the Boston Red Sox started the 2013 Major League Baseball season playing the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Monday so I figured I’d use the start of baseball season as an excuse to post this image of Carl Yastrzemski, better known to fans as Yaz. Carl Yastrzemski played for the Red Sox for 23 seasons and was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
I’ve had Kylie on the brain all day, and this tribute video from the guys over at Randy Blue is a personal favorite. I can’t believe it was two years ago this month that Kylie Minogue kicked off the American leg of her Aphrodite Tour here in Boston. I hope she’ll come back before long, but til then I hope you enjoy this.
The Provincetown Business Guild has released this promo to remind everyone the theme for Carnival Week in Ptown (August 18 – 24) will be Viva Las Vegas.
Do you plan on attending Carnival in Provincetown this year?
I’ve included a video my friend Olivier made from the 2012 Carnival Parade to help get you in the mood. I predict a lot of Cher impersonators and some rather interesting show girls will be parading down Commercial Street.
