ICA Boston opens “The Watershed” in East Boston, July 4th

Institute of Contemporary Art BostonEarlier this year The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) announced that the museum would expand and have a second satellite location in East Boston. Called “the Watershed”, the space will open to the public on Wednesday, July 4.

Located directly across the harbor from the ICAs home in the Seaport, the Watershed is in an active ship yard and is a refurbished former copper pipe and sheet metal facility. The 15,000 square foot industrial space along the East Boston waterfront increases the museum’s exhibition space by 50%.

The satellite space is seasonal open through October 8th this year then operating between late May and early October annually. Travel by boat between the two locations will be free to ICA members or with an ICA ticket.

I think this is great news and a wonderful addition to East Boston. The New York Times apparently agrees and  has an article in this week’s Sunday Times, In an East Boston Shipyard, a Watershed Idea for ArtI hope the ICA’s investment in the neighborhood is a signal to other Boston cultural institutions to look across the harbor and make similar investments in this community. Visit here for more information about the ICA’s Watershed.

Shower serenade: Blame it on the Bossa Nova

While all of us sing in the shower, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a music video that takes place in one. Much thanks to Matthew Rettenmund for sharing this on his boyculture blog. I figured this would be a nice post to end the work week as many of us  get ready for what looks to be a beautiful summer weekend. For those of you heading to Provincetown for Independence Week have fun.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

The R-rated riddles I’ve been sharing lately have been really popular and I can’t help but chuckle each time Blobby leaves his comment so here is another riddle which sounds a lot more adult than the answer I’m actually looking for.

This week’s brain teaser:  Arnold Schwarzenegger’s is really long. Michael J. Fox’s is short. Daffy Duck’s isn’t human. Madonna doesn’t have one. What am I?

Like riddles? Check out past week’s brain teasers.

What a handsome and happy photo. Any thoughts on when this may have been taken? I’m going to guess late 70s with all that wavy hair action.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Tennis player Borna Coric is easy on the eyes

ATP tennis player, handsome tennis player CoricMany of you are unlikely to know who Borna Coric is but this past weekend he upset Roger Federer on grass at the Gerry Weber Open in Germany. With that win, the 21 year old Croat saw his ranking jump to just outside the top 20 (ATP ranking 21). His victory over Federer is all the more impressive when you realize that this is only his second title and his first on grass.

The fact that Borna Coric is so easy on the eyes will only continue to endear him to me. I hope that his recent victory over Roger Federer in Germany provides him with the confidence he will need to have a good run at Wimbledon, which officially starts next week on July 2nd.  Until that time enjoy these photos of the handsome 21 year old. coric ATP, croatian tennis player borna coricborna coric is so handsome, Coric ATPYou can bet, I’ll be writing about this guy again. Especially if he keeps winning.
