BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:  How far can a fox run into a grove?

SpeakEasy Stage

Sam Tanabe plays Sammy Kimura in SpeakEasy Stage Company’s production of ALLEGIANCE

On Friday, May 4th The SpeakEasy Stage Company will open with their fifth and final production of their 2017 / 2018 season, ALLEGIANCE.

Inspired by the true childhood experience of TV/film actor and social media icon George Takei (Mr. Sulu on Star Trek), ALLEGIANCE tells the story of the Kimura family, whose lives are upended when they and 120,000 other Japanese-Americans were forced to leave their homes following the events at Pearl Harbor.

This show is an uplifting testament to the power of the human spirit. It follows the Kimura family as they fight between duty and defiance, custom and change, family bonds and forbidden loves. Be sure to check out this show. You’ll find it difficult to take your eyes off of the very handsome actor Sam Tanabe who you can also follow on Twitter at, @tanablems.

This weekend: First Fridays and the SoWa Art Walk

SoWa Art Walk

By Evan Rosenberg || 450 Harrison Avenue – Artist Studio #307A

This weekend celebrate and explore Boston’s most vibrant arts community at the Annual SoWa Art Walk. Make the most of this two-day event on your own, with friends or even as a date – it’s free to peruse and makes for a great opportunity to  see Boston’s creative economy up close. Perhaps the best date option is perusing studios and galleries this Friday as part of “First Fridays” where each month artist studios and galleries welcome people from 5 – 9PM.

I’d also like to give my friend and Boston-area artist, Evan Rosenberg a shout out and encourage you to stop by and visit his debut showing from his current series, Therapy, which will be at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery’s 450 Harrison Ave showroom on the 3rd floor in studio #307A.

Did you know the SoWa Art & Design District has more than 300 working artists studios, and is the largest concentration of contemporary art galleries in the city? Plan on coming out either Friday evening for First Fridays or for the SoWa Art Walk on Saturday and Sunday.

Emily TrotochaudIf you are a carb-hater or gluten-phobe this may not be the Instagram account for you, but if you live for pasta the way I do then this account is tantalizing. I had the pleasure of meeting Emily Trotochaud at a cooking class she was leading at Sur La Table in the Copley (ironically not to cook pasta) and I started following her account that evening.

LGBTQ curriculum to be added to MA schools

Considering the current political climate in the US it was interesting to see that earlier this week it was announced that Massachusetts schools will be able to try a new curriculum with LGBTQ-themed history, English and health this fall.

The curriculum, developed by a team of teachers with Massachusetts Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth, will be released this summer, and is expected to feature lessons on the 1969 Stonewall Riots and writings by gay and lesbian authors. It will also feature lessons like how Nick Carraway’s love for Jay Gatsby may have influenced themes in “The Great Gatsby.”

LGBT history

Allen Ginsberg on the left was was an American poet, philosopher, and writer. He is considered to be one of the leading figures of both the Beat Generation

The units are optional and the decisions of what will be included will be made at the local level. In case you missed it you can read the full article about this interesting change (for the better IMHO) in the Boston Herald article
