Last month I started posting another gay comic strip that you may not be familiar with called  Casey At The Bat.  The comic strip follows the adventures of a young, gay man and his friends in life, love and sports!

Casey At The Bat is the work of the very talented Bob Glasscock who resides in NYC.  You can read back issues and order Casey At The Bat volume 1 from his website, caseyatb.com.

Sex Love and Labels: Coming to terms in the gay community…

Sex Love and LabelsA friend has started a new blog dedicated to talking about sex, love and labels in the gay community.  You can read his first post, It all started…, which was inspired from a Buzzfeed quiz and a tweet of all things that inquired, “What kind of bottom are you?”  I’ve also added this to my blogroll alongside many of my favorite blogs.

Hanging with Frenchie and the Yankee in Charlotte

Sipping cocktails from the roofdeck bar and restaurant, Fahrenheit in Charlotte, NC

Last weekend I flew down to visit my good friends David and Mark (a.k.a. Frenchie and the Yankee) who moved to Charlotte approximately 2 years ago from Boston.  The trip was fantastic from start to finish.  It didn’t hurt that the weather in Charlotte last weekend was sunny and in the low 70s and every tree seemed to be blossoming, filling the streets with the heady fragrance of spring.

Charlotte’s hip South End

For those who don’t know David and Mark, they are spectacular hosts.  In the span of just one weekend we attended a Saturday morning mimosa party that raised funds for Time Out Youth; strolled through the incredibly picturesque Fourth Ward; visited The Duke Mansion in the posh Myers Park neighborhood; rode Charlotte’s light rail system to the 7th Street Public Market where we purchased a bottle of wine and cheese from local shops then sat down – enjoying an urban picnic of sorts in the cute little marketplace; and we even squeezed in a bit of retail therapy, going to their friend’s men’s fashion shop, SILVERFLY.  David and Mark hosted a lovely cocktail / dessert party at their home so I could meet their friends before we headed out to the gay bar Cathode Azure Club for some dancing.

While I enjoyed all that I did, my favorite time was spent together walking through their neighborhood – the South End, chatting over numerous bottles of wine and meeting their friends who are a charming and handsome bunch.

Taye Diggs and I are Twitter buds

Taye Diggs TwitterI don’t pay that much attention to how many followers I have on Twitter, but last week I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw that Taye Diggs started following me. I still think that it might have been a mistake on his part – although we both do share a love for Broadway musicals.

I’ve been obsessing over Taye Diggs ever since I saw late 90s movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back.  In my opinion, this Hollywood / Broadway star has only become better looking and more interesting with age.

Chalk this post up to me bragging (and flirting just a bit in case Mr. Diggs ever sees this post). I know he doesn’t fancy men but that won’t stop me from fancying him.

You too can follow me on Twittah here:  @BosGuy.

Loot by Joe Orton opens Friday, March 27

Hub Theatre Company of Boston, performing artsTheater doesn’t get anymore affordable than “pay-what-you-can” so no excuses for not checking out this production of Loot by the Hub Theatre Company of Boston which will run from Friday, March 27th through Sunday, April 12th at the Fist Church in Boston located at 66 Marlborough Street in the Back Bay.

Loot is an amoral, dark farce described as a tour de force of bad taste and taboos that satires the Roman Catholic Church, social attitudes towards death, police brutality and pretty much everything in between according to the media release.

The Hub Theatre Company of Boston is one of the city’s newest production companies (founded in 2012) and they focus on helping to foster creativity among Boston’s emerging theatre artists.  All tickets are pay-what-you-can and may be purchased online via www.hubtheatreboston.ticketleap.com.

Thank you Nola’s Fresh Foods

Nola Fresh FoodLast week Nola’s Fresh Foods stopped by my place with their salsa and chips for me to try out.  I should say, while I love free food, I don’t write about it unless I like it. The fact that I think their bean salsa might be the best I’ve ever had made writing this shout out all the more pleasant.

A quick look at their website will tell you that Nola’s is a local company based in Roslindale, MA and more importantly, their products have no preservatives, sugar, oils, artificial color or flavors.  Their food is actually vegan and gluten free.

Give this local company a try next time you go shopping

Where you can buy it:  Nola’s is sold at Foodies in the South End and Southie and I placed a quick call to the new Whole Foods in the South End and they confirmed they carry these products as well.  Nola’s website, nolasfreshfoods.com has a map to point you to the closest store nearest you.

Hey HBO, I’m still hooked on Looking

HBO, gay dramaSince writing this post, it has been confirmed that Looking has been canceled.  A movie made for HBO is in the making to wrap up any loose ends – bummah.

Did you watch Season 2 of Looking – HBO’s half hour drama that traces the lives (and relationship) of three gay men who live in San Francisco. Last Sunday was Looking’s Season 2 finale and now according to an article in Towleroad, HBO may be canceling the program.

That would really be a shame because I felt like the series finally hit its stride this season.  My frustrations with the three main characters were mollified in season 2, and I really started to enjoy their individual story lines despite the 30 minute format which I think is too brief for a drama.  Last week the NYT offered a great review of the second season in Mike Hale’s article, Authentic Characters Seeking Sex and Romance, and a Future on HBO.

What a bummer if HBO does indeed cancel Looking. Fortunately, I have Cucumber and Banana to look forward to starting on Logo-TV on April 13.
